Install Ubuntu in VMware Workstation to set network connection

Ubuntu is installed in VMware. There are four network connection methods:

I.Bridged: Connected directly to the physical network (set the network connection mode of ubuntu to bridge)

In this mode, the virtual system is like an independent host in the LAN, which is equal to the host computer in the network, you must treat it like other real machines in the LAN (such as assigning the network address, subnet mask, and gateway required by your LAN ). The relationship between a virtual system in bridged mode and the host machine is like connecting two computers on the same hub. The virtual system can access the host computer and other computers in the network of the host computer. If you want to use VMware to create a virtual server in the LAN to provide network services for LAN users, you should select the bridge mode.

1. Set a fixed IP address in the Host:

For example, IP Address: 192.168.1.2

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1

2. When installing Ubuntu, manually set the IP Address:

For example, IP Address: 192.168.1.3

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1

II.Nat: Used to share the host's IP address (NAT shared Internet access)

In this mode, the NIC of the virtual system is connected to the VMware network adapter vmnet8 Nic of the host computer (after the host computer is installed with VMware software, the two NICs VMware network adapter vmnet1 and VMWare network adapter vmnet8 are automatically added, check it in "network connection" of the host computer ). If you want your virtual system to connect to the external network, this mode is the simplest. The virtual system can access the external network without any network settings. The relationship between the virtual system in Nat mode and the host computer: the host computer is equivalent to a router with DHCP enabled. The virtual system is an actual machine in the intranet, obtain network parameters through the DHCP service of the vro. The virtual system can access other computers in the network where the host computer is located (or vice versa) and can exchange with the host computer.

1. Set the network connection mode of ubuntu to Nat.
2. Enable the VMware DHCP service and VMWare NAT service.
3. Set the network in Ubuntu to automatic configuration (DHCP) or manually set the IP address and DNS

III.Host-only: A private network shared with the host

In this mode, the virtual system Nic is connected to the VMware network adapter vmnet1 Nic of the host computer. By default, the virtual system can only communicate with the host computer, which is also the meaning of the Host-only name. In this case, two machines are directly connected through twisted pair wires.
If you want to use VMware to create a virtual system isolated from other machines in the network and perform some special network debugging, you can select the host-only mode.

4.Custom:Specific Virtual Network (custom, special network connection)
