I have never used Ubuntu before, so I don't know that the Ubuntu desktop Environment has either the desktop or alternate version. So I started with the 10.04desktop version. I have never used Ubuntu before, so I don't know that the Ubuntu desktop Environment has either the desktop or alternate version. So I started with the 10.04desktop version. After 10.10, I also had some preliminary knowledge about Ubuntu. I got it last night and installed it (too embarrassing ......), Now I will share my experiences with installing the system and take notes.

I tried to install it from the hard disk (Win7 operating system) When I installed 10.04, but it was not successful. It was just that I didn't boot it when I started it, but I still went in directly from win7 =. = Simply made the U disk boot disk, with UltraISO (download http://www.linuxidc.com/Linux/2010-03/25036.htm) to import. iso file. The installation is successful. Note that this is the desktop version.

I tried again last night and tried again to install alternate from the hard disk. Simply install it from a USB flash drive, but there is a difference between desktop and alternate here, that is, using UltraISO to import the USB flash drive does not guide the installation interface, or directly enter win7. I found some experience on the Internet, but I couldn't quite understand some of them. I found out that I had successfully installed Ubuntu 10.10 alternate from the USB flash drive. The following is the installation process (the installation process is exhausted ):

Here, I would like to mention that this is the installation process of alternate, But desktop should also be fine. I will explain the differences in the process. 1. a USB flash drive of no less than 1 GB is processed with bootice (in the attachment) (the attachment contains the image description ).

(1) Open bootice, select the desired USB flash drive, and click "Master Boot Record ".

(2) Select "grub for dos 0.4.5a" (the version may vary) and click "Install/configure ".

(3) If you understand it, you can select the "options" column above based on your needs. If not, you can select it by default. Click "write to disk ". Turn Off bootice.

2. Download initrd.gzand vmlinuzfrom the following network: (this can contain the suffix ". txt". After downloading the file, remove it)

Note that there is an install Folder in iso of alternate (casper for desktop). The two files are also listed below, do not use these two files to save time (for the following reasons ). After the download is complete, put it in the USB flash drive.

3. The attachment contains two files, GRLDR and menu. lst, which are also placed in the USB flash drive. Here we want to modify menu. lst. My contents are as follows:

Default 0
Timeout 10

Title Ubuntu 10.10
Root(Hd0, 3)
Kernel(Hd0, 3)/VmlinuzBoot = installIso-scan/filename =/Ubuntu-10.10-alternate-i386.isoRo quiet splash

Locale = zh_CN.UTF-8
Initrd (hd0, 3)/initrd.gz

Here we want to describe the place where the subscript is Red:

(1) There are three areas (hd0, 3). "3" is the Partition Number Of My USB flash drive. Here we need to make changes based on our own situation. If you do not know, it doesn't matter. There is another opportunity to change it later, which will be discussed below.

(2) boot = install, which means the folder install under the iso mentioned just now. If it is a desktop version, it should be casper.

(3) ubuntu-10.10-alternate-i386.iso, This is the file name of my ubuntu installation file, just forgot to say that this iso file should also be put directly under the U disk.

(4)initrd.gz, which is also the file mentioned just now. Some old versions of tutorials on the Internet have the. lz suffix. I don't know if it was changed to 10.10 or the desktop version.

4. After the modification and save check are correct, restart the instance. Set the boot from the USB flash drive based on your machine. After the startup, you will encounter several lines of text similar to the following:

Hd0, 0 ntfs

Hd0, 1 ntfs

Hd0, 2 ntfs

Hd0, 3 fat32

The Partition Number of the hard disk should be the same as the Partition Number Of My USB flash drive. The format is fat32. This picture is very fast. Remember this number.

5. I have no picture below. I hope you can understand it. If everything goes well, we will see that the title is ubuntu10.10, which is also the line defined in menu. lst above, but I have no special instructions. Press enter to enter.

6. If the settings are correct, the ubuntu text installation interface will be displayed.

There is a problem: the installation interface is not displayed if the menu. lst is not set. However, you can modify it here. There is a simple English description at the bottom of the screen. The idea is to press "e" to edit it and move the cursor to a problematic place.

The installation page is in English, but it is not difficult to understand. In step 2 or step 2, you will find the two files you just downloaded. Note: if the two are copied directly from the iso package, the CD or optical drive cannot be found and the installation cannot be continued. If the file is downloaded, it will proceed smoothly.
