Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr was released on the 18 th. This version uses the modified version of Unity 7.2 desktop and good old X.org as the default display server. Currently, Unity 8 and Mir are only applicable to Ubuntu touch and Ubuntu mobile versions, but the two pre-versions can be installed through the default Ubuntu 14.04 library. If you want to try Unity 8 and Mir, follow the steps below in Ubuntu 14.04:

This is only a test version, and the final version will change more. Unity 8 will be installed on Ubuntu 14.10 by default, but it will be used as the default desktop only after it is installed on ubuntu 16.04 LTS.
Ubuntu touch core applications can be used on Ubuntu 14.04, these applications are mainly used for mobile phone users, including address book applications, mobile browsers, camera applications, dating applications, image managers, Notes applications, and shared applications; are essential for mobile devices. Run the following command to install the SDK:
