Brief introduction:
NetBackup is one of the most popular backup software in the world today. It was acquired by Symantec in 2004 as a product of Veritas, a powerful product that is divided into entry-level NetBackup exec and premium NetBackup products. The latest version is currently 7.5.
Working environment:
NBU master server can store directly, or it can manage storage through Media server to back up its own data and client's data resources.
1.1 Understanding several concepts
NBU includes server/client software:
1. Install the server software on servers that need to connect to a storage device, such as a tape library or a CD-ROM library.
2. Install the client software on a machine that needs to provide data for backup.
Communication between Server and Client via TCP/IP Sockets.
NBU supports master server and media server storage
NetBackup Primary server (master server) management to develop a full network backup strategy, control all backup jobs, is the core of centralized management. Master server manages storage devices, controls backup/Archive policies, and recovery operations.
Media Server only connects storage devices, provides data streaming, does not control backup/Archive policy and recovery operations, and it is the role of decentralized network burden to improve backup efficiency.
NetBackup Pre-installation:
The NetBackup entity consists of 17 discs, corresponding to different systems and a Chinese Language pack CD. NetBackup can be detected before installation:
Insert Disc-"Select Browser.exe file-" preinstallation-"Run the Preinstallation ecvironment checker-" will give a test report to determine whether the installation will be successful according to the report.
