Recently, our company has deployed virtualization and purchased two Dell r710 servers (CPU: 64-bit dual-core, clock speed: 2.4 GHz, 32 GB memory, Hard Disk: two 5.0 GB Riad 1, three 2 TB Riad 5, and 10 Nic), and VMWare ESX is installed on the two servers, because the knowledge of Virtualization has only used some virtual machine software used by clients before, I have encountered many problems, checked a lot of information, and made many detours, with the process of solving this problem, I have some knowledge about the virtualization system. Today I will write down these processes to make a summary, and I will leave a token for the future!

Install VMware esx5.0 on the Dell poweredge r710server

1. Configure Dell poweredge r710

When we got two servers, we started to prepare, but we found that one of the servers could not be scanned to the hard disk, according to the Dell random instructions, the methods for restoring the initial BIOS settings have been solved. In order to guard against the same situation in the future, I have recorded the solution in the manual!

(Warning: Due to raid settings on the server, please use it with caution. Restoring the default settings by mistake is very likely to cause data loss !) This is because we have a new machine and no data! Haha

1. Press F2 at startup to enter BIOS settings

2. Light up the three lights on the keyboard by capsulelock, num lock, and scrol lock respectively.

3. press Alt + e to clear NVRAM and press Alt + F. Then, the system will send a "Drop" message, indicating that the BIOS has been restored successfully, the integrated array card will be disabled and must be enabled again in the integrateddevices

4. Press ESC and select Save/exit to save the changes and start the machine again. Then, the system automatically checks all the devices on the laptop. The screen displays the wide Ming automic ide configuration.

Configure a Dell raid array card

(Warning: data may be lost during raid operations, so please back up data)

1. Press Ctrl + R to go to the configuration page during self-check.

2. Follow the prompts in the Virtual Disk Manager at the bottom of the screen. In the vd mgmt menu, press f2 to expand the Virtual Disk creation menu. In the virtual disk creation form, press the Enter key and select create new VD to create a new virtual disk.

3. Press enter in the raid level option to display the supported RAID levels. Select RAID 1 (system)/RAID 5 (data) as the raid level option and press enter to confirm.

4. After confirming the raid level, press the downward arrow key to move the cursor to the physical disks list, move the cursor up and down to the desired hard disk location, and press the Space key to select (remove) the hard disk in the list, when the selected hard disk meets the requirements required by the raid type, the VD size of the basic setting on the right can display the default raid capacity information.

5. After the above configuration is confirmed, press the tab key to move the cursor to OK and press enter to display a prompt. If it is a brand new array, we recommend that you perform initialization, if the purpose of configuring the array is to restore the previous data, do not initialize it. Press enter to confirm and continue.

6. After the configuration is complete, the system will return to the main interface of vd mgmt, move the cursor to the Virtual Disk 0 in the figure, and press enter to view the information of the Virtual Disk successfully configured, after viewing, Press ESC to return to the main interface. On this interface, move the cursor to virtualdisk 0 and press f2 to expand the menu for this virtual hard disk operation.
