VMware is a virtual machine software that can virtualize other operating systems on an operating system platform, can be free to their own needs to learn and test the operating environment to configure and modify, do not worry will lead to system crashes, but also allows users to build a virtual network on a single computer to strengthen the learning of network knowledge. Now let's take a look at how VMware is installed and set up.

Software Installation

Download the installation file for the software. System installation process needs to use the serial number, you can go to the company's website vmware.com free to apply for a 30-day trial serial number.

1. Select the "file→new→new Virtual Machine" menu option to eject the wizard to create the virtual machine (Figure 1).

2. In the wizard window, select the type of virtual machine you want to create. "Typical" is the default typical way to include a common "hardware" configuration in this way: Video card, sound card, network card, note that these devices are not dependent on your real hardware devices, they are usually above the hardware of the virtual device, which is the copy to any machine can run the reason; "Custom" way is a custom way, you can choose the virtual machine need what "hardware" device, this way is usually left to the "master" use.

3. Then select the operating system that we need to run on the virtual machine. As you can see from Figure 2, the operating systems that the virtual machine software can support include operating systems from MS-DOS to Windows 2003 and many versions of UNIX, Linux, NetWare, and so on. In this article, we take the virtual machine that installs the Linux operating system as an example, and choose the "Linux" option in Figure 2.

4. Enter the name of the virtual machine (any) and the location where the virtual machine file will be stored.

Now that the setup of a virtual machine system has been completed, let's look at how to use the virtual machine.

creating a virtual machine software system

Click the virtual machine on the left named "Linux" in Figure 3, and then click the Green Triangle in the toolbar to start the virtual machine (red button to stop the virtual machine running and the middle button to suspend the virtual machine).

The first boot is the virtual machine self-test process, calling the virtual machine BIOS. Because we install the "Linux" system needs to use CD-ROM boot, so you need to press F2 to enter the virtual machine BIOS setup program, set to CD-ROM boot.

Next, put the Linux system installation CD in the CD drive, restart the virtual machine, and then install the Linux system just as you would on an entity computer. Tip: The virtual machine's hard disk is just like a new hard drive, you can be confident that you can easily partition the format, which will not cause any damage to your real system, because VMware Virtual a folder on the computer into a hard disk, the default size is 4GB. After the system installation is complete, restart the virtual machine.

At this point the entire virtual machine setup and installation Work complete (Figure 4), this virtual Linux system is stored in the form of a file on your hard drive, if you do not need this virtual machine system, the corresponding folder can be deleted directly. In addition, you can copy files from this path to other machines that have VMware software installed.

His virtual machine system is also installed in the same way. The author's host is running Windows Server, with Linux, Unix, Windows 98 systems installed on the same host and no conflicts found.
