The most important thing for us to use a computer is to access the Internet. We need to complete basic installation settings. The most important part is the installation and setup of the modem. Generally, the Modem can be divided into the following four categories based on the Modem format and installation method:
1. External
The external Modem is placed outside the chassis and connected to the host through a serial communication port. This Modem is convenient, smart, and easy to install, and the flashing indicator is easy to monitor the working status of the Modem. However, the external Modem requires additional power supplies and cables.
2. built-in
During the installation of the internal Modem, You need to split the chassis and set the interrupt and comport. The installation is cumbersome. This type of Modem occupies the expansion slot on the motherboard, but requires no additional power supplies and cables, and is cheaper than the external Modem. Www.2cto.com
3. PCMCIA plug-in
The plug-in Modem is mainly used for laptops and is slim. With mobile phones, mobile office can be conveniently implemented.
4. rack mounting
A rack Modem is equivalent to a set of Modem in a cabinet or housing, and is powered by a unified power supply. Rack-mounted Modem is mainly used in Internet/Intranet, telecom bureaus, campus networks, financial institutions, and other network centers.
In addition to the above four common Modem types, there are also ISDN and Cable Modem types, as well as ADSL. Cable Modem uses Cable cables for signal transmission. It not only supports modulation and demodulation, but also integrates routers, hubs, and bridges. The theoretical transmission speed can reach more than 10 Mbps. Through Cable Modem, each user has an independent IP address, which is equivalent to having a private line. At present, Shenzhen cable TV station tianwei network company has launched this Internet access service based on cable TV network, the access rate is 2 mbps-10mbps!
4. Modem Installation
For the built-in Modem, you only need to insert it to the PCI or ISA slot of the motherboard. For the external Modem, you can insert it to the serial port after the chassis.
