wanem
in the project control, many times need to simulate the network environment, to test the requirements of bidding. However, it is difficult to simulate the network environment through router and switch in the usual environment. Can now be implemented using third-party software Wanem. Wanem is another tool for simulating network environments, including network latency, packet loss, jitter, data corruption, chaotic sequencing, and more. Can be installed and configured directly with ISO image if you configure Citrix NetScaler to be a bit strikingly similar.
Installation Environment
Wanem requirements are low,PC,VMware Workstation need to select the physical NIC bridge mode,XenServer
can be installed directly.
Installation Steps
Mount the ISO file directly, Wanem itself is a Linux virtual machine, you need to configure IP address static or DHCP. After configuring the IP address, you can login to the Web management interface in the browser,http://192.168.1.42/WANem/ attention to case.
How to use
The Wanem Configuration page will open directly after entering the system

Basic mode and advanced mode are mainly configured in the LAN
Basic Mode: Simple configuration of the network access rate, the size of the bandwidth.

Advanced Mode: Configure latency, packet loss, jitter, chaos, and more
we are directly in Advanced Mode Configuration allows

Options for the main configuration
Delay : Delay
Delay Time represents the time of the delay
jitter represents the size of the jitter

Loss :
Loss (%) packet loss ratio
Correlation lost packet proportional floating range
Packet reordering : Disorderly Order
corruption : Packet Corruption
IP Source Address : Source Address
IP Source Subnet : Source Address Mask
IP dest Address : Destination Address
IP dest Subnet : Destination Address mask
Test Topology
Client (VDI) ———— wanem ———— webServer (StoreFront)
Wanem between Client and Server, the data of both sides need to pass wanem to make wanem control bidirectional data flow.
The environment I'm testing is all in the same Vlan inside. So you don't need to configure a default route, just configure a route on the client and server.
test Method
Test the communication between VDI and the Web server on your corporate LAN:
Two device address Client 192.168.1.199(VDI),Web Server 192.168.1.247(Citrix StoreFront),wanem 192.168.1.42.
to make the data between the Client and Server is Wanem, we need to manually configure a host route, the next hop to the wanem IP. If you need to add a default route if you want to boast a broadcast domain, the next hop of the default route must point to the IP address of wanem .

Client:route add192.168.1.247 Mask 255.255.255.255 192.168.1.42

Web-server:route Add 192.168.1.199 Mask 255.255.255.255192.168.1.42
The goal is to have client access requests pass through Wanem processing.
set up after the first ping each other is a pass, does not explain that the host route is not set correctly, set the route after the following can be tested.
Simulation
Here simulate a drop packet in 50% range at 10% delay in 500ms range at 100ms

Take a look at the effect
There is no running configuration, and when the Wanem configuration is run, the trailing drops are basically around 50%.

!!! When the virtual machine restarts, all configurations are emptied, so there is no need to worry about the test environment affecting the office environment.
