Many of the previous versions of Exchange Server are well known, but each time that you install Exchange Server must be installed on Windows Server with a GUI graphical interface, many people feel that Windows Server GUI is very resource-friendly and prone to human error to affect the stability of the system, then in the future release of the Exchange Server 2019 version will be the first to support the installation in Windows Server Core mode of exchange Server, which greatly improves the focus of Windows Server on Exchange server, and improves the resource utilization of the system, and the personal feeling is so cool, more and more like the Linux enterprise level without GUI installation now mainstream product services.

Exchange Server 2019 is currently in preview, and the new changes are small, and I personally think that installing in Windows Server Core mode is the biggest feature and highlight of this version, followed by a future of Windows Server Management also in Web mode, Systems are core, and it feels as if the entire system and business are becoming more focused and more stable, secure, and maximized in performance.

The specific features of Exchange Server 2019 can be see: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/exchange/2018/07/24/ exchange-server-2019-public-preview/

Not much to say, to get to the point, I here mainly to introduce you how to install the Exchange Server 2019 preview in Windows Server Core mode

I have a DC (Domain control server), and then install a Windows Server Core system to host the installation of Exchange Server 2019 preview

Note: Exchange Server 2019 requires that the active Directory forest functional level must be Windows Server R2 or later, and Exchange Server 2019 can only be installed in Windows Server 20 16 or 2019 in the core

The next step is to set the administrator password

The next step is to modify the static IP address

Execute PowerShell

Get-netipaddress View the current IP address

Then use the following command to assign a static IP:

Configure the DNS server

Enable Remote Desktop

Allows file and printer sharing for easy network access to copy files to the disk on that server

Install the operating system components required for Microsoft UCMA 4.0 and the operating system components required for Active Directory preparation

Install-windowsfeature Server-media-foundation, Rsat-adds

Restarting the server

Restart-computer

Next, download the components that are required to install Exchange Server 2019 Preview, and then copy them over the network to the new software folder in the C-drive in Windows Server Core server.

    • Exchange Server 2019 Preview ISO File
    • Visual Studio 2013 Visual C + + redistributable Packages (Vcredist_x64.exe)
    • . Net 4.7.1 Offline installer (for Windows Server 2016 only)

Then sign in to server Core, first install VC + + Redistributable

Then install UCMA (Microsoft Unified Communications Managed API 4.0)

UCMA installable programs exist in the Exchange Server 2019 preview ISO. Use the following PowerShell command to mount an ISO for Exchange Server 2019

Mount-diskimage C:\software\ExchangeServer2019-x64.iso

The UCMA can be installed in the Ucmaredist folder on Exchange Server 2019.ISO. To start the UCMA installation:

Performing the installation

Then install. NET 4.7.1 (not required on Windows Server 2019 Server Core)

c:\<folderpath>\ndp471-kb4033342-x86-x64-allos-enu.exe/q/log C:\temp\ndp.log

. NET installation will continue in quiet mode, i.e. the progress bar will not be displayed. After the successful installation, you will be asked to restart your computer. You can also view the log files to check the installation progress

(Need to wait a little more)

Rename the generated log file ndp.log.html to Ndp.log

Then open the start Notepad c:\ndp.log with Notepad and you can see that the installation is successful and requires a restart of the server

But do not restart here, we then add domain, add domain and then restart

Rename the server computer name to ex2019, and then add the domain to corp.cn

Add-computer-domainname corp.cn-newname ex2019-domaincredential Corp\Administrator

Domain success, restart server Restart-computer-force

After restarting the server, use domain administrator Corp\Administrator to log on to the server

To mount an Exchange Server 2019.ISO preview image again using Mount-diskimage

Mount-diskimage C:\software\ExchangeServer2019-x64.iso

Then extend the AD schema

Setup/iacceptexchangeserverlicenseterms/prepareschema

Setup/iacceptexchangeserverlicenseterms/preparead/organizationname:corp

Setup/iacceptexchangeserverlicenseterms/preparealldomains

Use the following command to start the Exchange Server installation. The PowerShell command will also install the required operating system components for Exchange:

The default install Mailbox role is the default installation path, and the missing Windows components are installed automatically:

. \setup.exe/m:install/roles:m/iacceptexchangeserverlicenseterms/installwindowscomponents

Specify the Exchange Server installation path to the D:\Program files\microsoft\exchange server\v15 directory, and install the missing Windows components automatically and disable the antivirus filter:

. \setup.exe/m:install/role:mailbox/targetdir: "D:\Program files\microsoft\exchange server\v15"/DisableAMFiltering /installwindowscomponents/iacceptexchangeserverlicenseterms

Here I choose to install the Exchange server into the specified directory in the D drive

Installation wait time, I take this time to add this server also to Windows Admin Center monitoring, so that in real time to see the performance indicators of the trend

If you want to open the Exchange Setup log for viewing or troubleshooting any Exchange installation issues, you can use Notepad on the Server Core. Start it as follows:

Start Notepad C:\ExchangeSetupLogs\ExchangeSetup.log

Installation completed successfully

Restart the server after the Exchange Server 2019 Preview installation is complete, log on after a reboot you can start the Exchange Management Shell by using the Launchems command from the command line

Alternatively, you can access the Exchange Admin Center by using a Web browser in the management station

Log in and see.

Look at roles and servers

Finally look at the performance resources of the server now

Look at the process

OK, here's the introduction, I think the startup and restart in core mode is too fast, cool. Expect more Microsoft's local enterprise products to support installation in Windows Server Core mode.
