Installing Oracle 9i database servers

This chapter describes two main components of the Oracle 9i Network-the installation and configuration process of the database server and the management client. The purpose of this chapter is to help readers understand how to install Oracle 9i and how to configure Oracle 9i network environments.
This book uses Windows SQL Server as the platform for installed network operating systems, and the database server uses the Enterprise Edition of Oracle 9i DB for Windows 2000.
Hardware environment requirements for 2.1.1 Installation
The following 5 major aspects of the Oracle 9i requirements for the hardware environment are described below.
1. CPU Requirements
The minimum CPU configuration to Pentium 166 is OK.
2. Requirements for Memory
The minimum memory capacity is 64MB, preferably above 256MB.
3. Requirements for hard drives
It is recommended that you configure a hard disk with 8GB capacity.
4. Requirements for optical drives
Recommend the use of fast optical drive, more than 16 times times the speed.
5. The requirements of the network card
Generally can choose 10/100MB Adaptive Network card.
Software environment requirements for 2.1.2 Installation
The following two main aspects explain Oracle 9i's requirements for the software environment.
1. Requirements for the operating system
It is recommended that you install the database server on a newly installed Windows Master server to install the administrative client on Windows Server or Windows 98.
2. Requirements for virtual memory
It is recommended that you adjust the virtual memory appropriately to speed up installation.
2.1.3 Installation of network environment requirements
Install an Oracle 9i database server that requires at least two computers to make up a local area network through a switch or hub.
2.1.4 Installation Environment Instance
An instance of the installation environment is shown in Figure 2.1

2.1.5 Use the Ping command to test whether the network is connected
(1) Enter the "ping 192.168.100.5-t" command line and click "OK" button.
(2) The interface appears as shown in Figure 2.3. Indicates that the network is connected.

2.1.6 Installation Steps
(1) The "Install" interface appears as shown in Figure 2.4. Click the Start Installation button.

(3) The "File positioning" interface appears as shown in Figure 2.6.
(4) The "Available Products" interface appears as shown in Figure 2.7.

     (6) appears as shown in Figure 2.9, "Database Configuration" interface. The

     (7) appears in the database identification interface as shown in Figure 2.10. After you enter the name "Myoracle.mynet" in the Global Database Name text box, automatically generate "MyOracle" in the SID text box, and click the Next button. The

     (11) installation process begins copying files, and the disk location interface as shown in Figure 2.14 appears in 44% of the entire process.

     (12) The disk location interface appears when the installation process is up to 87%.

2.1.7 Installation Results
