[Oracle] Installing Oracle 10g on SuSE 9.1 Professional Author: fenng Date: July 03 2004
The SuSE 9.1 Professional Edition was released some time ago. SuSE Company is an important Linux manufacturer in Europe. Suse Linux has always been known for its gorgeous interface. In fact, one of the striking areas of SuSE Linux is that support for Oracle has always been good.
In the previous versions of SuSE, there have been special improvements for Oracle, and it is easy to install, the average user only need to install an RPM package can be done. However, there is no official statement of whether the current version 9.1 supports Oracle 10g. After the author test, found that Oracle 10g on the SUSE can run very well.

SuSE Linux 9.1 uses the core of 2.6 (2.6.4-52). This is an important reason for the author to test it. This version of KDE is 3.2,gui enough to be gorgeous, but this has little to do with our topic today. Readers interested in SuSE's new features can take a look at this links:http://www.suse.com/us/private/products/suse_linux/prof/new_features.html first. In addition, the 9.1 version integrates the LVM2,LVM to the maintenance of a lot of convenience, in a sense, improve the availability of the system. The 2.6 core +lvm2+ 10g--is really fascinating.

Before installing, go to SuSE Oracle Support site to see: http://www.suse.com/en/business/certifications/certified_software/oracle/documents.html. Although there is no data directly directed at Oracle 10g, some documents are also very useful. There is also a support document on the http://otn.oracle.com, which should also be a must-read thing.

A preparatory work

First check that the operating system software package is installed. That is, the development environment of those things, GCC, binutils, make, etc., if not installed, you can use the Yast2 tool to install, carefully select the software, according to the prompts in turn to insert each installation disk.

Refer to http://www.dbanotes.net/Oracle/Install-Oracle10g-RHEL3.htm information here. (In addition, you can find some other useful link in this link). Next we create users and related groups, and adjust the user's environment variables:

#-----------Begin--------------------------------------Export Oracle_base=/u/app/oracleexport oracle_ Home= $ORACLE _base/product/10.1.0/db_1export oracle_sid=testexport path= $PATH: $HOME/bin: $ORACLE _home/binexport LD_ Library_path= $ORACLE _home/lib:/usr/lib#--------------End------------------------------------------

Create a directory to check the core parameters. I found no sysctl.conf file on the SuSE. Create them yourself. The contents are as follows:

#-----------Begin--------------------------------------kernel.shmall = 2097152 Kernel.shmmax = 2147483648 Kernel.shmmni = 4096 Kernel.sem = 32000 128 Fs.file-max = 65536 Net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range = 1024 65000#-------- ------End------------------------------------------

Then sysctl-p to make sure.

Second installation software

Do some processing before you install. Because SuSE is not mentioned in the configuration file Oraparame.ini required by Runinstaller, an error is reported during the preflight.

We have adopted a method of adjusting the document. Specific reference: http://www.dbanotes.net/Oracle/10G-Beta-Install-Bug.htm

VI Oraparam.ini Find [certified versions]linux=redhat-2.1,unitedlinux-1.0,redhat-3 modified into [certified Versions]Linux= redhat-2.1,unitedlinux-1.0,redhat-3,suse-9.1

And then run./runinstaller

If the X installation interface is not present, notice the settings for the display environment variable. Later all the way is a graphics file. I don't have much to say. Note that you do not create a database when you install it.

Three Create instances

Run DBCA to create an instance. However, here is a more troubling question. Graphical creation instances are always reported: Ora-27125:unable to create shared memory segment. Check core parameters, no problem found. Later through the network communication that: the Linux 2.6 kernel has a feature: Huge TLB support. The attribute is active by default. (By default of root has permission to allocate shared memory with this option (SHM_HUGETLB) and Oracle 10g defaults usin G it, so Oracle fails to allocate the SGA. This capability are supposed to being able to controlled with the Setcaps program (Cap_ipc_lock), but I couldn ' t get it to wor K properly. The solution is either to set Disable_hugetlbfs=1 before you start Oracle or to recompile the kernel without B_page and CONFIG_HUGETLBFS configuration parameters.)

To resolve this issue, execute the $export Disable_hugetlbfs=1 under the Oracle user

Then run DBCA again. If you encounter problems, it is best to customize the library, and finally choose the "Generate Script" (of course, you can write the script to build the library, but with graphical tools to facilitate some).

Run the script to create the instance. If it's not an accident, it should be no problem this time.

Installing the database is just a prelude to learning Oracle 10g. Don't wait, start exploring the many features of 10g!
