Whether for an operating system course or a preliminary attempt to use a Linux system, it is common to install a virtual machine software under a Windows host, a virtual Linux operating system.
Tools/Materials
- Windows Server 2012 operating system (available on other Windows operating systems)
- Virtual Machine Software Vmware-workstation-full-11.0.0-2305329.exe
Download virtual machine software
- 1
Download virtual machine software (vmware11.0:http://pan.baidu.com/s/1pjfqqyz; keygen: Http://pan.baidu.com/s/1i3iS55F)
END
Installing Vmware-workstation
- 1
Click Run Vmware-workstation-full-11.0.0-2305329.exe, accept the license agreement, select a typical installation
- 2
Click Change to change the program installation path, where the default path is changed to the new folder in the D drive, the next step is to choose the default settings, or you can configure your own selection as needed
- 3
The program begins installation and the installation ends with a prompt to enter the license key
END
Register to enter a license key
- 1
Run keygen, click Copy to copy Serial number, paste it into the previous Setup pop-up dialog box, click Enter, install complete
- 2
Running VMware after successful installation appears as follows
END
Take XUbuntu14.04 as an example to install a virtual operating system
- 1
Open VMware Software, click Create a new virtual machine, select a typical installation
- 2
Browse to find the XUbuntu14.04 ISO image file that has been downloaded.
- 3
Next, set the user name and login password of the Linux system; Next, set the virtual machine name and the location of the virtual machine (preferably not on the system disk because the virtual machine is very storage-intensive)
- 4
Set the disk size (that is, the virtual operating system of hard disk space, preferably large enough, normal use of 10-20g can be, but if the compilation kernel is better than 20G), disk allocation is recommended to use the second type.
If you choose to store the virtual disk as a single file, you can allocate the maximum disk size of the host hard disk space to the virtual operating system (40G here), and choose to split the virtual disk into multiple files. VMware virtual machine software uses 40G space that requires a gradual increase in hard disk space, rather than a one-time host, depending on the virtual operating system. After selecting the first allocation, the available hard disk space in Windows is reduced by 40G, and the second option is reduced by only a few g of available disk space for the host but decreases as the virtual machine is used.
- 5
Already set the virtual machine parameters, click Finish to create a virtual machine, the Linux system is not installed.
- 6
The first time you start a new virtual machine, start installing the operating system, which is the same as installing the operating system steps on a real machine
END
Precautions
- Running virtual machines consumes memory, at least 4G of host memory using WINDOWS7 or 8 OS
- Virtual machine software can be used to learn the installation steps of the operating system, once the installation fails to directly delete the virtual machine and then create a new virtual machine can
