Vista has been released for 8 months, but both consumers and corporate users seem to be sitting still, waiting for Vista SP1 to be released, so the system will be more secure and more compatible.

In this regard, analysts do not think so. Michael A, a Gartner analyst, says there is no need to wait for SP1 to have plans to upgrade to the Vista operating system. SP1, he argues, can improve Vista's security and compatibility, but it's not important enough to be integrated, so there's no need to wait and do what.

For Vista deployment, especially for businesses and government agencies, there is a wait-and-see attitude, hoping to be deployed with constant testing. Microsoft insists that Windows update and Automatic Updates can solve most of the problems for them.

A large number of companies are expected to start upgrading their PCs next year to fully deploy Vista.

There are 2 ways for companies to upgrade to Vista: one is upgrading software from WinXP to Vista, and the other is buying new computers preinstalled with Vista.

At present, most of the PCs running in the enterprise are purchased in 2005 and 2006, running the WinXP standard, the memory is about 256M to 1G. If this part of the PC to upgrade to Vista, the need to pay not only the software costs of Vista, but also to pay some of the hardware upgrade costs. The retail price of Vista is also quite high. Because these "master" PCs have been unable to run Vista, need to upgrade in memory support and graphics. If you do so, you may also encounter compatibility issues that are not desirable.

Buy the retail vista price, the average according to 1500 yuan to calculate, upgrade memory and graphics card, about 500 yuan, so the cost is also up to 2000 yuan. Companies can allow Vista and WinXP computers to coexist over time, depleting the life cycle of WinXP computers.

Enterprises should take the way to upgrade the whole machine, if the bulk purchase, the price can be reduced. The newly purchased PCs are pre-installed with Vista, so you can get vista at OEM prices, or even lower. According to market price, the mainstream of the desktop is about 4000 yuan ~6000 yuan, has 3-5 years of life cycle. Companies do not need to worry about the compatibility of software and hardware, and the cost of maintenance will gradually decline.

From the overall cost of ownership, the whole upgrade will be lower than the hardware and software upgrades.

In addition, Microsoft commissioned research agencies to give a data, WinXP annual total cost of ownership of 4407 U.S. dollars, and Vista for 3802 U.S. dollars.

WinXP the total cost of ownership of $4407 a year includes hardware, software, it labor, and user costs. Vista is not very large because of its late listing, so its data is largely based on inference.

If an enterprise upgrades to Vista, it can save 251 dollars a year because of Vista security, less support requirements, and software and hardware costs.
