Intel cooperates with RedHat to implement Wayland support for Gnome Desktop

After rejecting the support for Canonica's Mir, Intel announced enhanced cooperation with RedHat to implement Wayland support for Gnome desktops. After rejecting the support for Canonica's Mir, Intel announced its partnership with Red Hat to implement Wayland support for Gnome desktops.

Christian Schaller said on his blog that Gnome will not use Weston, but Gnome Shell as the Wayland synthesizer.

He explained that porting to Wayland does not simply replace X call with Wayland call. In many cases, the function of X should be used as an independent library in Wayland, the configuration processed by X needs to be stored elsewhere.

Intel and Red Hat are working on releasing a technical preview for Fedora 20, and Wayland will serve as an option for users.
