Later this Thursday, VeriSign announced that it would increase the registration fees for. com and. NET domain names from October 1 onwards.
According to foreign media reports, VeriSign said, the registration fee for the. com domain name will increase from 6.42 U.S. dollars to 6.86 U.S. dollars, the registration fee for the. NET domain name will increase from 3.85 U.S. dollars to 4.23 U.S. dollars. VeriSign said the change in registration fees was in line with the agreement it had with ICANN.
VeriSign also indicated that, under normal circumstances, it would handle more than 33 billion DNS requests a day. It plans to raise the DNS requests that can be processed from 400 billion to 4 trillion times a day, increasing the bandwidth of the global primary domain resolution center from 20Gbps to 200Gbps.
Today, VeriSign's share price fell 72 cents, or 2.1%, at $33.91.
