Matt mullenweg is one of the founders and major developers of WordPress. He lives in San Francisco and is committed to WordPress and other free software related matters. chanh Ong is the volunteer administrator of the famous open-source CMS portal site opensourcecms, the following is an interview by chanh ong with Matt mullenweg.
Chanh: Please let us know your situation
Matt:
I grew up in Houston, Texas, where I put all my thoughts on music, and especially liked the jazz sakowner (many versions of WordPress's development code are named after famous jazz musicians-translators ). A few years ago, I moved to San Francisco and started WordPress development in CNET. A year later, I left CNET and founded automattic.com, working on WordPress and other free software.
Chanh: Why do you develop WordPress in CNET?
Matt:
At that time, I opened my own blog in photomatt.net and found that many blog systems were very difficult to use at that time. I thought there should be a better system and I would follow the open-source tradition, start to analyze and study the blog system (Matt first studied WordPress's predecessor B2 and developed B2 branch together with Mike little, that is, WordPress-translator)
Chanh: What do you think is the most powerful feature of WordPress?
Matt:
WordPress meets all your expectations for a modern Blog system, allowing you to focus only on what really matters and write. However, the reason for attracting a large number of users is our huge third-party plug-in development community, where you can find thousands of themes and plug-ins. The theme allows you to instantly change the overall appearance of the site. The plug-in allows you to expand the WordPress features and complete anything you might think.
Finally, we also include some lightweight Content Management System-CMS features. For example, you can create static content in a tree structure. Currently, this is a more exciting feature of WordPress, many organizations, including Ford and 71 miles, are using it to do very interesting things.
Chanh: in the new version of WordPress, what new features do you want to add?
Matt:
It's hard to say, it depends on how our community wants to do it. We are lucky to have such a huge user base that our community is pushing this product forward.
Chanh: What are the greatest challenges for creating an open source CMS?
Matt:
It is not difficult to write a CMS, but it is difficult to detail all aspects of it. This is the most important factor to distinguish between a mature project and a temporary interest project, I think it takes 10 years for a great piece of software (we did it for four years ).
Chanh: there are thousands of open-source CMS systems available for people to choose. Why do people choose WordPress?
Matt:
Maybe many people who are admired are using WordPress. Many famous blogs in the blog circle use WordPress. In addition, it is easy to get started and every module of WordPress is hard to understand, many spatial vendors provide one-click Installation Tools, so we are more interested in the user's final experience than competitors.
Chanh: Do you want to share something with the opecnsourcecms community?
Matt:
No. Thanks to the administrators of this site for providing such a good service. I also use opensourcecms to check whether other users' systems have some interesting functions.
