She wrote code before creating DevLink, worked as an engineer for MOTOROLA for five years, and later devoted herself to the Internet industry, in Tianjin and Zhu Feng, they started their own business as smart routers and served as product managers. The idea of DevLink was initially originated from the Tianjin Google Developer Community (Tianjin GDG ). With the support of Google, this community was founded by Yan Qi, Zhu Feng, and several friends. it was originally intended to bring together a large number of developers in Tianjin, it creates a soil for communication and learning. After the community was founded, a technical exchange activity will be organized every month, ranging from a dozen to several hundred people. sometimes there will be famous lecturers, and sometimes Yan Qi will personally launch the competition, from here on, Qi gradually gained experience in activity operation.

Qi, a programmer, has been dubbed a female man because he has been mixing with the coders for a long time. Thanks to this identity, the coders like to chat with her. after a long time, she gradually gets used to communicating and thinking with developers. During his contact with the "coders", Yan Qi found that the developer group had many problems and pain points due to differences in educational background and personal experience, such: lack of practical experience; problems do not know how to solve; ability cannot be improved; no suitable job can be found; career bottlenecks encountered, do not know how to break through; the current seller market environment, developers are still misunderstood in the eyes of many people. most developers are not easy to speak and cannot express their thoughts, in particular, the problems faced by front-line developers, and even one of their bottlenecks for upward promotion.

How can developers communicate, share, and communicate effectively so that they can solve technical difficulties and career barriers through mutual assistance and social networking?

While Qi was thinking about this problem, another person appeared. Gao Chunhui, one of the founders of DevLink, often participates in various activities as lecturers. He found that although there are many technical exchange activities in the market, there are few activities to talk about a specific development language and be able to solve practical problems from the perspective of frontline developers, do you want to launch an activity dedicated to a specific development language? This idea immediately received a response from Qi, so she took over this important task and started preparations for various work. After several discussions and surveys, the team decided that each activity should start with only one technical language or a specific field to vertically and accurately locate practical technical problems, and the key points of operations, select the direction and find the authority. Which technical language should we start?

In the middle of 2015, PHP7 is about to be released. PHP7 brings revolutionary performance improvements, and PHP is the language with the highest share of internet enterprises. Without a doubt, PHP7 became the choice goal of Qi, so the first activity of the team in 2015 was born. As the core developer and evangelist of PHP 7, laruence naturally became the conference lecturer and helped to recommend many top-notch lecturers.

DevLink, born for links and developers

The PHP conference in 2015 was successfully held, and the content shared was fully based on practice and practice, so it was recognized by developers. Therefore, the team has made a lot of effort in naming, it is hoped that, like its name, it can be connected to every developer, whether it's a great guy or an ordinary little shrimp, through DevLink's equal communication and sharing of technical experience, to achieve continuous growth.

After the establishment of DevLink, the first thing Qi did was to prepare for the second PHP7 conference. Due to limited funds, the conference was facing serious shortage of manpower. at this time, female played a super role: One person handled all the propaganda, ticketing, cooperation, preparation, and coordination affairs.

Simply looking at this workload, I can imagine the hard work. He also said that she encountered many problems during the preparation of the Conference. the biggest problem facing her was sales. Due to the unprecedented scale of the conference, but the sales channels owned by the team were limited at that time, the conference information was not passed to many developers in a timely and effective manner, in the preparatory stage, due to the dispute over a technical conference in Shanghai, some people who know the news began to question whether the participation in various technical conferences was really useful, which caused a great deal of ticket sales pressure.

In the face of partners and exhibitors, DevLink has almost no background in large-scale commercial activities. The brand has just been established and is not recognized. many enterprises doubt the influence and effect of the conference. During the PHP7 conference, many well-known enterprises are also hosting technical meetings. many exhibitors have limited energy and budget, so they are not very interested in cooperation with DevLink, this slows down the market.

However, the name of the female is not an imaginary name. Gong Yu and the team recruited a group of volunteers to solve the manpower problem. at the same time, Gao Chunhui invited his colleagues in his project to help. Due to the accumulation of the first PHP 7 conference, DevLink has such a high-quality outsourcer as the foundation for the rear. a group of powerful lecturers have contributed excellent content and made innovations in some ways, the difficulties were solved one by one, and the conference was a complete success, which was also praised by developers.

Qi said that the founding of the conference gave her a sense of accomplishment: "Although there are still many shortcomings, there are not many complaints, but we encourage us to do better and better ." Many participants even sent a private letter to her to express their gratitude to the organizing committee. some people posted a post on Zhihu and wrote the words of thanks, these have all touched upon Qi, and strengthened the determination of the team to continue DevLink and make great efforts.

"Good content should be valuable"

DevLink recognizes the value of content, and believes that "technical experts" should not share the value for free. it firmly believes that excellent content needs to be priced. Therefore, at the second PHP Global Developer Conference, DevLink's unique "reward for lecturers" feature was well received by lecturers and audience, the organizing committee charged 10% of the votes to the audience's account, allowing the audience to reward the lecturers. In addition to the 10% votes, the average audience received over 30 yuan in cash through payment. this was not anticipated by the organizing committee. It was also through this, and we began to realize that, audience members are willing to pay for shared content. In the future, DevLink will make this award feature open-source, so that more technical meetings can easily use this feature. it is hoped that through open-source and practical operations by the team, gradually let the free sharing and free speech of lecturers become a thing of the past. Instead, they are paid by work and priced by quality.

Talking about the future development of DevLink, Qi told the author that DevLink is not dedicated to the conference, but a platform for frontline developers to share, exchange, and help each other. In the future, DevLink will also organize many development and technology sharing activities to start online activities simultaneously.
