A few days ago, I received "massive database solutions" from my friend, dbsnake-A database technology book from South Korea, then I threw myself into reading this book with great interest. After reading most of the content, I think it is necessary to write it here and introduce it to you.

In fact, before that, I knew Cui Hua was involved in the review of the book massive database solutions. We talked about this several times. He mentioned that he often wanted to work for this book until midnight, but he told me that it was worth it, this is indeed a database technology book worth introducing to China. He admired this book so much for me and participated in the translation review of this book, including eygle and kamus, which filled me with expectation, I firmly believe in the quality of this book.

In fact, the author of this book, Li Hua Zhi, a database in South Korea, told me to leave it alone. I didn't know much about it before. It may be because it is not an English-speaking country. Just as few Oracle experts in China write English blogs or post articles on OTN. What we know about oracle is generally from English-speaking countries. Another Oracle ace from South Korea, Dion Cho, was an English blog on WordPress for us to understand. (He also has a book introduced to China in, "Advanced owi and Oracle performance adjustment", which is actually a very good book about Oracle wait events and optimization, I don't know why this book is so obscure in China. The translation of this book does not make people feel like a translation book. Instead, it is like an oracle technical book written in the Chinese language .)

After reading the book massive database solutions on just a few pages, I am able to evaluate the translation and review quality of this book. This allows me to read "expert Oracle database architecture 9i and 10g programming techniques and Solutions" (Chinese name "Oracle 9i & 10 programming art-deep database architecture"). the feeling of books like "Advanced owi and Oracle performance adjustment" is completely lacking in translation.

From the title of the book, I was misled at the beginning. I thought it was a book about massive data management and performance similar to data warehouses. In fact, this is a database technology book on Oracle-based (large) database performance. Unlike other books that often have more than a dozen or more chapters, this 400-page thick book has only six chapters, only concentrated on several major performance-related topics. This is not a general and comprehensive book, nor a step by step textbook. The "SQL Execution Plan" section contains more than 100 pages. Even if I think I have a considerable understanding of Oracle's execution plan, I still get the execution plan I have never imagined or come into contact with in the past. Other chapters on index and table join also put a lot of pen and ink. It can be said that this is a book similar to the famous Thomas Kyle's "expert Oracle database architecture 9i and 10g programming techniques and Solutions", which allows us to master the database performance technology in principle. A large number of comparisons and illustrations in the book allow us to avoid the problem that the technical principles are too abstract when we understand the technology in principle. Both of these books share one thing in common. Although they focus on principles and essence, they are not general, but in-depth technical details.

This book is not only suitable for DBA, but I think it is also more suitable for System Design and developers. For example, the chapter "strategic solution for index building" helps us design indexes effectively in the development and design of the system, rather than after the system goes online and runs, because of performance problems, you can add indexes passively.

Although this book focuses on Oracle to introduce massive (large) database solutions, it does not mention Oracle's unique features such as latch, 10046 trace, and SGA structure. Therefore, this book is also suitable for other non-Oracle Database workers. I believe these principles also apply to other relational databases.

I am willing to introduce this book to you because I hope that more people in the Oracle technology community can learn more about technical nutrition. If possible in the future, I also hope to write more of my own things and contribute a little bit to the Oracle technology community.
