1. Quick calculator Mode
In emacs23, you can use the M-x quick-Calc command or the shortcut key C-x * Q to start the quick calculator mode. This is a very small tool. After it is started, it will prompt the input mathematical formula in minibuffer, and press enter to display the result. This mode can be easily used for some basic mathematical operations, which is more convenient and quicker than using the built-in calculator.
C-G can be used to exit the quick calculator mode.
2. Programmable Calculator
In emacs23, use the M-x calc command or use the menu "tools-> programmable calculator" to enable the programmable calculator mode. In general, the programmable calculator model can be used in the following three aspects:
(1) mathematical computation
If you want to calculate the value of 1 + 2, enter "1 Press enter 2 press ENTER +.
(2) convert binary, octal, decimal, and hexadecimal
Enter "10 press ENTER D2". This D2 will display all the numbers in the window in binary form. All the numbers will start with "2 #" to indicate that they are in binary form. If you want to display it in decimal format, enter "D0.
You can also use D8, D6 to display the octal and hexadecimal formats.
If you want to convert a binary number like 1010 to a decimal number, enter "2 #1010 press ENTER" and then enter "D0" to display the decimal format of the number.
Similarly, input Octal numbers starting with "8 #" And hexadecimal numbers starting with "16.
(3) temperature unit conversion
If you want to know how C ° is 40 f °, enter "40 press ENTER ut DF press enter dc Press ENTER", and then you won't be confused about the conversion of these temperature units!
If you want to exit the programmable calculator, enter "Q.
In general, this programmable calculator style is a bit weird, not too complicated, or not to use it as well.
3. Simple Calculator
Use M-x calculator to directly start this mode. I don't think it is very easy to use. For more details, check the simplecalculator instructions of emacswiki and enter "Q" to exit this mode.
Generally, the first calculator is enough for daily work.
