  Camera chip functions

The digital camera consists of a lens, an image sensor (CCD or CMOS Device), and an arm/DSP. The lens aggregates the light reflected by the object to the image sensor, and then the image sensor is converted into a digital video signal and output to the chip through radio/TV. The chip performs a series of Digital Image Signal Processing (ISP) and after data compression, it is transmitted to the backend decoding display device through the network to achieve video preview, video recording, playback and other functions.

As we can see from the above, the camera chip is the core component of the entire camera. It receives images from image sensors and then performs a series of operations and processing, all functions of the Digital Network Camera are implemented.

Digital Camera chips are also known as on-Chip Systems (SOC ), it integrates processor resources, memory resources, codec algorithms, peripheral device interfaces, and so on a single platform. Currently, the most mainstream camera chip manufacturers include Texas Instruments (TI), hisilicon, ambarella, NXP, grainmedia, and nextchip.

The tms320dm368 Video Processor launched by TI supports multi-format HD videos, including vc1, MPEG2, MPEG4, MJPEG, and H.264. It supports up to 30 frames of encoded 264 p per second. In addition, the dm368 supports multi-Format Decoding, multi-rate multi-stream, and High-Definition Multi-Channel functions. It also provides audio, voice, and other high-definition video codecs for higher flexibility and lower design complexity. Dm368 adopts the ARM926EJ-S kernel to achieve performance improvement of more than 40%, the frequency is up to 432 MHz, and the video encoding/decoding function can be completed by the Integrated HD video accelerator, thus optimizing the system performance.

At the same time, TI has made some attempts in intelligence. Dmva1 integrates TI's first-generation visual coprocessor to provide entry-level analysis functions, such as number of people statistics, trigger areas, intelligent motion detection, camera tampering detection, and streaming media metadata. The same chip is tightly coupled with the visual coprocessor and intelligent analysis functions, thus implementing an IP camera with video analysis functions.

Dmva2 SOC is a product after dmva1. It not only doubles the Video Performance of dmva1, but also uses Ti smart codecs to reduce the bit rate by 5 times, achieve higher video quality and network bandwidth.
