About this series

This tutorial series Informix Warehouse Feature introduces the features and features of the new client and server Software in Informix Warehouse. You can use these tools to create and deploy data Warehouse projects, to model databases on the Informix Data Warehouse platform, to automate data transformation and transfer processes, and to easily integrate data from different data sources into the Informix warehouse.

This tutorial is the 1th part of the introductory series of Informix Warehouse Feature. This tutorial describes the Informix Warehouse option and its components and architecture. Outlines the key concepts of the Data Warehouse and discusses the role of Informix Warehouse Feature in the Informix Data warehousing solution. Create a fictional business scenario (this scenario is used throughout the tutorial series). In this scenario, you use the Informix Warehouse Feature to design and populate the new warehouse repository. Finally, start using Informix Warehouse: Lead readers to create new Dw/elt projects using the design Studio tools, define connections between data sources and destinations, create physical data models for these databases in two different ways, and display the entity-relationship (ER) diagrams for these models , the model of the target warehouse is deployed in the physical database.

Prerequisite conditions

This tutorial is for Informix Dynamic Server and Informix Warehouse installed on the Windows® platform. However, most of the information in this tutorial also applies to solutions on UNIX® or linux®. This tutorial is intended for users of Informix database who are familiar with Informix tools such as dbaccess, SQL language and scripts, Windows environments, and Eclipse-based Ide/gui tools. You should also have experience in relational database design, ER models, data warehousing, and ELT tools.

This tutorial assumes that you:

The Informix Warehouse Feature client is installed.

Installed the Informix Dynamic Server (IDS) 11.50.xc3 or higher and have the basics of IDS.

System Requirements

To run the example in this tutorial, you must install at least the Informix Warehouse Feature client and Informix Dynamic server, and a database server is running (local or remote).

This tutorial takes a fictional simplified example of a business scenario in the retail industry. We will design and deploy an Informix data mart for retail companies Sports Stores for sales and cost analysis. This new warehouse repository combines and aggregates data from an INFORMIX operational database and several external files.

We will use the sample database Stores_demo as the source operational (OLTP) system, Sales_demo as the target warehouse (OLAP) system. The steps for creating these databases are as follows (this tutorial assumes that running these commands as user admin will define the table under this pattern):

Delete any databases named Stores_demo and Sales_demo, if they already exist.

Create and populate the sample Stores_demo database, enabling logging options. Dbaccessdemo scripts can be found in the $INFORMIXDIR/bin:dbaccessdemo -log

To create an empty Sales_demo database, enable logging options:dbaccess – -
> create database sales_demo with log ;
