I. Basic information about Serv-U

 

Software name: Serv-U 4.0.0.4 (shared software, 30 Angel restrictions)

 

Running Environment: A full range of Windows versions except Windows 3.x

Ii. Installation and uninstallation of Serv-U

 

1. Serv-U Installation

 

Directly download the susetup1.exe file to start installation. In addition to the protocol usage step, you need to check I have read and accept the above license agreement (I have read and accept the above Protocols) and then click Next (Next, use the default options for others.

 

After the installation is complete, the system automatically enters the Serv-U Administrator (hereinafter referred to as "manager") window, And the Setup Wizard appears ), now you can create your first FTP server according to the wizard.

 

2. Detach Serv-U

 

Select Remove Serv-U under "Start → program → Serv-u ftp Server", and then follow the prompts as needed.

 

3. Create the first FTP Server

 

For the sake of convenience, I assume that your local IP address is 192.168.0.1 and the local computer name is WY. You want to create an Anonymous access (Anonymous) on the FTP server, anonymous users log on to the D: \ wy directory.

 

In the Installation Wizard, it is generally recommended that you select the default options (directly press the Next button) for beginners except the following items to be modified.

 

1. click the box icon on the Right of Anonymous home directory to select the target directory D: \ wy and then press Next) button to continue.

 

2. When a prompt "Create named account" is displayed, select "No" and click "Next.

 

After the configuration is complete, you can see a Wizard Generated Domain entry under Domains (Domain Name) in the framework on the left of the manager, under which the Users (User) contains an account named Anonymous. The virtual root directory (main directory) after this account is logged on is D: \ wy directory.

 

The FTP server address is 192.168.0.1 (or WY, the computer name of this server). The default port number is 21, and only Anonymous account Anonymous is allowed to log on.

 

Details about the Serv-U Installation Wizard

 

1. IP address, leave blank for dynamic or unknown IP address (IP address, if it is a dynamic IP address or do not know the IP address, leave it blank): Enter the IP address you want to bind to this FTP server. Unless your computer has multiple fixed IP addresses and you only want one of them to be used by the FTP server, you need to enter the corresponding IP address here; otherwise, it is generally recommended that, whether you have a fixed IP address or not, leave this item blank.

 

2. Domain name (Domain name): Enter the Domain name of your FTP server. However, the domain name is determined by DNS resolution rather than here. Therefore, you can fill in any content, such as text that describes FTP like "My first FTP server.

 

3. Install as system service (Install as a system service): This option is valid for Windows NT/2000/XP servers. If Yes is selected, the FTP service of Serv-U will be added to the system service (which can be viewed in "service" under "Administrative Tools ); if No is selected, it will not exist as a system service. If your FTP server runs all the year round, we recommend that you select Yes (Yes). If you only need to run it, we recommend that you select No (No ).

 

4. Allow anonymous access (Do you accept anonymous logon): If you want the FTP server to accept anonymous logon, select Yes (Yes); otherwise, select No (No ).

 

5. Anonymous home directory (home directory of Anonymous users): You can set the real location of the virtual root directory of Anonymous users on the FTP server after logon.

 

6. lock anonymous users in to their home directory (do you want to Lock anonymous users to their home directories?): If Yes (Yes) is selected, anonymous users can only access their home directories and the following directory trees; if No is selected, it can also access the same level or more advanced directory tree of its home directory. From the security perspective, we recommend that you select Yes (Yes ).

 

7. Create named account (do you want to Create a named account.

 

Iv. Common basic operations

 

After setting up your first FTP server according to the installation wizard, you can only implement the default functions and permissions granted by Serv-U, so that the server can be controlled as you like, the following operations are also required.

 

1. Client Connection

 

In Internet Explorer, the Client Access format is ftp: // 192.168.0.1. You do not need to enter the user name and password. in DOS (or command prompt) status, the ACCESS format of the client is ftp-A 192.168.0.1, and the user name and password are not required. In the Professional FTP client software settings, the Chinese Version of CuteFTP Version 4.2 is used as an example, enter 192.168.0.1 at "FTP host address" in "Site Manager", and then select "anonymous connection" under "logon type". You do not need to enter the user name and password.

 

Description

 

1. In the above client connection, the IP address 192.168.0.1 can also be replaced by the computer name WY.

 

2. Except for "A" in ftp-A 192.168.0.1, it must be case-insensitive.

 

3. If you use ftp 192.168.0.1 for Logon in DOS, you need to enter the Anonymous logon username Anonymous. The password is blank (Press ENTER) or any other value.

 

2. Management of FTP users

 

To add a New User (including adding Anonymous Users), select Users (Users) in the framework on the left of the manager, right-click the User, and choose New User ), set the User Name, Password, and Home directory as prompted.

 

To Delete a User, right-click the User and select Delete User.

 

To Copy a User, right-click the User and select Copy User. A new User named Copy of xxx is displayed, except for the user name and the original user, the other parts (including passwords, home directories, directory permissions, and so on) are exactly the same.

 

To temporarily Disable the logon permission of a user, you only need to select the user in the framework on the left, then enter the Account window in the framework on the right, and check Disable account) you can.

 

3. Manage Directory Permissions

 

Select the user name in the framework on the left of the manager, and then enter the Dir Access (Directory Access) window in the framework on the right. After selecting the corresponding directory in the list, you can change the access permission of the current user on the right side of the window.

 

Description

 

1. Read: the right to Read (copy, download, not view) an object.

 

2. Write: The Write operation (upload) of a file.

 

3. Append: the power to write and attach files.

 

4. Delete: The right to Delete (upload, rename, Delete, and move) an object.

 

5. Execute: the right to run executable files directly.

 

6. List: view the file and directory.

 

7. Create (Create): Permission to Create a directory.

 

8. Remove: the right to move, delete, and rename directories.

 

9. inherit (inheritance): If this option is checked, the property set above will act on the current Path (directory) and its entire directory tree; otherwise, it will only act on its current Path (directory) valid.

 

4. Add a virtual directory

 

For example, if the main directory of an Anonymous user (Anonymous) is D: \ wy and you want to access content in E: \ all \ nodisk in the format of ftp: // 192.168.0.1/test, you need to add a virtual directory for it. The procedure is as follows:

 

(1) In the framework on the left of the manager, select Settings under Domains (domain name), and then go to the General window in the framework on the right.

 

(2) Click Add under Virtual path mappings (Virtual directory ing), and then select E: \ all \ nodisk under Physical path (Physical path) as prompted, select D: \ wy under Map Physical path to (ing Physical path to) and enter test at mapped path name to add the ing records of this virtual directory.

 

(3) Finally, select the Anonymous user in the framework on the left of the manager, then go to the Dir Access (Directory Access) window in the framework on the right, and press the Add button to Add the directory E: \ all \ nodisk is added to the list.
