Iptraf is a ncurses IP LAN monitor for generating statistics including TCP information, UDP counts, ICMP and OSPF information, Ethernet load information, node state information, IP checksum errors, and so on.

It is based on the ncurses user interface to save users from the tedious command line switches.


IP traffic monitor, used to display information about IP traffic changes in your network. Includes TCP identity information, packages, and byte counts, ICMP details, OSPF packet types.

Simple and detailed interface statistics, including IP, TCP, UDP, ICMP, non-IP and other IP packet count, IP checksum error, interface activity, packet size count.

The TCP and UDP service monitors, which display the number of packets sent and received on common TCP and UDP application ports.

The local area network data statistic module, can discover the on-line host, and displays its data activity statistic information.

TCP, UDP, and other protocol display filters that allow you to view only the traffic that is of interest.

Log function.

Supports Ethernet, FDDI, ISDN, SLIP, PPP, and local loopback interface types.

leverages the original socket interface built into the Linux kernel, allowing it (IPTRAF) to be used on a variety of supported NIC

Installation method

Ubuntu and its derivative versions

sudo apt-get install Iptraf

Arch Linux and its derivative versions

The code is as follows:

sudo pacman-s Iptra

Fedora and its derivative versions

The code is as follows:

sudo yum install Iptraf


If you run the Iptraf command without any command-line options, the program goes into an interactive mode where you can access a variety of features through the main menu.
