In a broad sense, the "Gateway" refers to the "interface" connecting a network to another network. For example, an enterprise's intranet is connected to an external internet, A gateway is required for management and control. It is a complex network connection device that supports conversion between different protocols to achieve interconnection between different protocol networks 。
The so-called wireless gateway is a Wireless AP integrated with the simple routing function. In a sense, the wireless gateway solution is the same as the Broadband Router solution; that is to say, the wireless gateway can complete the functions of the Wireless Bridge and the wireless router through different settings, you can also directly connect to external networks, such as the WAN, while implementing the AP function 。
1. product selection
Currently, there are many wireless gateway products available in the market. In general, products in the market are small, portable, versatile, and practical. In addition, some products fully consider the needs of users in product design 。
Some products are equipped with hanging holes behind them, which can be easily mounted on the wall, you can connect devices such as XBOX, PS2, set-top boxes, laptops, and network printers to existing wireless networks. Some products have interfaces to connect printers, it can be used as a printer wireless server. Some products support cameras and can be used as wireless monitoring devices. When purchasing a printer, you must choose one based on your needs 。
The following describes the wireless gateway in detail through a specific product 。
SMC Wireless gateway SMCWTVG
Product Name: SMC Wireless gateway SMCWTVG
Product Introduction: Has Wireless AP, VoIP function, support Wireless AP, wireless client or wireless bridge three modes, built in a WAN port, a lanport, two RJ-11 telephone interface access hole, it also supports the 802.11b/g wireless network connection function. In terms of the wireless network reception capability, SMCWTVG does not have an external antenna and uses a hidden wireless antenna, so the receiving range is not wide 。

Ii. wireless gateway Configuration
According to the previous introduction, we should understand that the wireless gateway itself is an IP sharing device, with built-in PPPoE automatic dialing and DHCP functions, which can provide wireless and wired connection functions; therefore, its configuration is no different from that of a wireless router. The main configuration of a wireless gateway is to enable the automatic dialing function. Here, we only use the Intel WLGW2011BAK wireless gateway as an example, introduce the configuration and debugging process of the wireless gateway 。
Step 1: After the computer and wireless gateway are connected, enter the default IP Address "192.168.0.10" in the address bar of the browser. (the default IP addresses of some wireless APS or wireless gateways are different, please refer to the product manual). Enter the account to enter the management interface 。
Step 2: click the "Save/Next" button in the lower right corner twice, and then click the "Cable/DSL Settings" button to go to the wireless gateway automatic dialing configuration page 。
Step 3: Check the "PPPoE Username/Password" option, enter the User Name for ADSL dialing after "User Name (PPPoE)" below, and then click "Password (PPPoE) "and" Retype Password "enter the Password twice, and then press" Apply "in the lower right corner of the page to save the settings 。
Tip: After the configuration is complete, you are advised to check the connection status of the device and whether the wireless and wired functions are normally connected through the check options provided on the management interface, some common problems may occur. You can find a solution from the user manual and the simple troubleshooting manual attached to the CD, such as wired connection, but wireless connection 。
Step 4: Set advanced settings 。
Generally, an "Hide AP Access setting (indicating hiding AP Access) is displayed on the Wireless AP or wireless gateway setting interface. If this option is selected, the wireless terminal cannot scan and discover the AP even if it is within the signal coverage of the Wireless AP. It only knows the SSID value set in the Wireless AP, in order to connect to and access the AP normally. This function maximizes the security of the AP and shields access from illegal users 。
Of course, the setting interfaces of different products are certainly different, but the parameters set are similar. Any product can be easily used to understand the parameters to be set and their meanings 。

In the wireless gateway configuration interface, we often see many configuration terms and understand the meanings of these terms, which makes the configuration process easier. In other products, it can also be easily configured 。
Channel
Explanation: it refers to a channel, which is equivalent to a television channel. A function of the wireless gateway configuration program attached to a wireless network adapter is to scan the channel signal of the AP currently connected, select region 。
AP name
Explanation: when multiple APS work in the network, each AP must have its own name to facilitate management. You can enter the name as needed. Generally, there is only one AP in the family, therefore, it serves the same purpose as SSID recognition 。
Mode
Explanation: AP can work in three modes. AP is connected to wired and wireless networks and serves as a transparent bridge. Repeater refers to the relay mode, which can extend the coverage of wireless signals, connect two or more scattered networks. AP + Repeater allows the AP to work in both AP and Repeater modes. Obviously, it must be in AP mode for home users 。
SNMP
Explanation: This is a standard protocol for network device management and monitoring. This option can be enabled 。
