In the Internet era, what we need is the bit image, not the real bit recorded on your hard disk. When you send an email to me, what you transmit to me is some data in bits, not the text you write on your computer.

This situation is a bit like what we often see in detective movies. For the sake of confidentiality, intelligence officers often use a fixed book as a cipher book to exchange information.

For example, the Bible is used as the cipher book. Intelligence officers use numbers to express the information, such as 12-23-34, it indicates 12th characters in 23rd rows on 34th pages of the Bible. In this way, the Intelligence Department will be able to know what the other party is talking about after reviewing the Bible after receiving such digital groups.

In this process, the information we get is the coordinates of each word, rather than the word itself. Its principle is like a mirror, let us see what the other party has written. Therefore, for this state, we use a term called "Mirror Image" to describe it.

The ability to transmit data over the network is, in essence, whether we can replace itself with a mirror. This is a very important concept.

Only mirrors can be transmitted over the network. As far as the current technical means are concerned, we have no way to transmit atoms over networks, even at the theoretical level, that is to say, so far, we have not found the feasibility of transmitting atoms through the network.

The interaction of digital technology is based on the image. This unique feature brings us two major application features of the digital age. One is no-cost replication, the other is no distance transfer.

No-cost replication means that technical replication does not require costs, rather than commercial piracy, infringement, or copyright.

Copying an e-book from a computer is not costly. It only occupies your hard disk space. In the physical world, it produces one more product, the actual raw materials need to be consumed, which will produce the production cost. For example, the cost of manufacturing a lighter in a factory is obviously different from that of manufacturing ten lighters, the cost of copying an e-book on a computer is no different from that of copying ten e-books.

The example of a mobile app download shop gives us a clearer picture of this feature.

Once the software is created, the cost will not change any more. No matter how many people buy your software by downloading it, or even 10 thousand people buy it, the cost is the same.

No-distance transmission means that the object to be transmitted is only related to whether the line is smooth and the distance between the two is irrelevant. Theoretically, in Beijing, a digital signal is transmitted to the city, there is no principle difference from transmitting a digital signal to the US.

For an item composed of atoms, its mirror image is of no use to us. You cannot use a refrigerator in the mirror for ice water?

In the IOT world, what we need to do and what we can do is not to create atoms through networks, but to control atoms through networks. The digital signal controlling these atoms is applicable to the image principle. With this premise, we can control the atoms through the network, on the other hand, it can also respond to various theories with network characteristics, such as Long Tail theory.
