As you've learned, jquery uses the $ symbol as a shorthand for jquery.

What if other JavaScript frameworks also use the $ symbol as shorthand?

Some other JavaScript frameworks include: MooTools, Backbone, Sammy, Cappuccino, Knockout, JavaScript MVC, Google Web Toolkit, Google Closure, Ember, Batman, and Ext JS.

Some of these frameworks also use the $ symbol as shorthand (like jQuery), and if you're using the same shorthand symbol in two different frameworks, it's possible that the script will stop running.

The JQuery team took the problem into account and implemented the Noconflict () method.
