JQuery expert: Get rid of the old browser to enter future Web Development

JQuery is widely known for Web development or Web design. Recently, Think Vitamin conducted a brief interview with Learning jQuery author Karl Swedberg. Karl Swedberg is a JavaScript and jQuery technical expert who has written a large number of related articles and has offered jQuery-related lectures at various Web development and design conferences.

For designers who have never heard of jQuery, What Is jQuery?

JQuery is a tool that allows developers and designers to add interactive content to their webpages. Its core commands allow you to locate or create and operate on objects on webpages, it is actually a more easy-to-use JavaScript that can perform various operations on the page without forcing the page to refresh.

In your opinion, why does jQuery work for Web designers?

JavaScript broadens the horizon for design, and jQuery makes it easier. For those who are familiar with CSS, writing jQuery code is similar. For those who have Flash experience, jQuery is a standardized and open technology, it can achieve interaction similar to Flash.

You will give a jQuery lecture at The Future of Web Deisgn New York. What is The general content?

I will introduce the jQuery library. Next, I will explain how to improve user experience on the site through some practices. I will demonstrate some technologies, let's see how jQuery makes up for CSS processing deficiencies in some browsers. I will explain how to make good use of animations and how to prevent abuse. Finally, we will demonstrate some interesting plug-ins.

JQuery has many practical plug-ins. Which of them are indispensable to designers?

This depends on the website or the customer's needs. One of my most commonly used plug-ins is Cycle Plugin designed by Mike Alsup. This is an option to play images in turn and has a very nice over-performance. This plug-in is not limited to playing images, you can also play any content. It is really good. You can play so much content in such a small space.

Recently I am also quite interested in jQuery UI plug-ins. This plug-in makes it easy to use rich user experience, such as drag-and-drop operations. It contains great components and I have started to use the dialog box in it, tab and date selector.

In your opinion, what is the future of Web design?

I am like a fool in predicting any future technology. In some ways, if we cannot get rid of old browsers, things may not change much. However, even now, in those better browsers, we have also seen some exciting things, and I look forward to seeing some brand new things.

The Webkit engine development team has already done a lot of work in CSS animation, and they even extend their reach to graphic hardware to achieve visual effects. Firefox, Safari, and Chrome are catching up with you on the JavaScript engine side, and many JavaScript libraries are also significantly improved in performance. We will use more and more HTML 5 elements, such as Canvas, audio, and video. Web Fonts will also be improved in terms of technology and copyright. It is certain that the Web will be amazing in the future.
