On the eve of jquery's four-week birthday, the jquery team announced the much-anticipated jquery 1.4. The most notable feature of this version is that the performance of the most commonly used jquery method has been significantly improved.

Jquery 1.4 has rewritten many common methods. When analyzing the code base, we found that the performance of the new jquery version has been significantly improved compared with the previous version, and a lot of internal function calls have been added to reduce the complexity of the Code.

For this new version, the jquery team has made great efforts to improve the test coverage rate and provides the widest range of browser support, which is also the most famous part of jquery:

In jquery 1.4, we fixed 207 bugs (97 bugs fixed in 1.3). In addition, we also increased the 1504 tests in jquery 1.3.2 to the current 3060. Now, jquery tests all mainstream browsers (Safari 3.2, Safari 4, Firefox 2, Firefox 3, Firefox 3.5, ie 6, IE 7, IE 8, opera 10.10, and chrome).

The official jquery API documentation is also completely rewritten for this release, and a new jquery Forum is also released:

Over the past four years, we have used email lists and Google group to manage jquery-related discussions and communities. Now, this management method is hard to keep up with the times.

To celebrate jquery's 4-week birthday, we have created the jquery14.com site:

We have introduced the new version for 14 consecutive days to celebrate the release of jquery 1.4. You may notice that we have a special liking for the number 14, because jquery 1.4 was released on the date of jquery's four-week birthday, which happens on July 14, January 14. Remember to check it out every day, because every day there are new content worth your expectation!

You can download jquery 1.4 from the official jquery website, Google, and Microsoft CDN. Visual Studio developers will have to wait a few days to use the smart sensing tips compatible with version 1.4.
