Jump into the first pitfall in linux-disk recovery due to installation of Ubuntu is mistakenly restored. (record of TestDisk usage), ubuntutestdisk

Skip to operation instructions if you don't talk nonsense.

Just a few days ago, I was eager to replace my old laptop with a Linux operating system, and it was just a step into Linux in my spare time. Just do it, select Ubuntu for the release, and downloadUbuntu16.04ISO, downloadApsara StackMake it into a USB flash drive. Well, restart the computer, boot the USB flash drive, and enter the installation interface.

Well, the installation interface is cool. I also detected Win8 installed on the hard disk. Well, I asked if I was co-operating with other systems or clearing and installing it. Now that I am fully engaged, you must only install Ubuntu, Win8, bye-bye. Well, select the second one. It is found online. NoteNote :..Forget it. I just saw it and noticed that the system entered this trap. I thought the system was a drive C. I thought it was 16.4, so I should not have killed the entire hard disk.

Then I continued, continued, and continued. Well, I started to install it. But the more I thought about it, the more I thought about it, the more I thought about it. I thought I was able to make the boat in my later years. I made a decision at that time, although this decision was subsequently confirmed to have been released. I pressed the power, shut down the computer, and then started the computer. Well, I cannot enter Win8. Well, U disk boot, and enter Ubuntu live cd mode. Oh No! I found my hard disk empty. My photos, my documents. Oh No!

I calmed down for five minutes and thought about what happened. Well, it should be up to five minutes from the installation to the start. It should be only advanced formatting, that is to say, the data can still be retrieved.

I first thought of EasyRecovery under windows, but now my only USB flash drive has been engraved with Ubuntu. There is no way to find a solution under Linux. I found an artifact TestDisk and looked at the instructions, it is found that the program cannot be installed in Live CD mode. I don't want to wait. I probably figured out the previous D disk location. I once sorted out disk fragments. It is reasonable to say that the system should not affect the previous data disk (Of course, in summer, if data is lost, the safest way is not to perform any operations on the hard disk.), Continue to install the system.

TestDisk instructions and precautions

1. UseSudo apt-get install testdisk (Ubuntu)Install TestDisk. Enter TestDisk on the terminal. Interface Example

2. Three options: create Log, append Log, and no Log. Select either the first or third options.

3. Select the device to be restored. I chose my hard disk.

4. Select the Partition Table type, because the previous operating system is win8, so select the first Intel/PC. You can choose according to your actual situation.

5. Then select the first Analyse. Well, I have never tried any of the following.

6. select quick search first. Maybe because I installed the system twice, I didn't find my Windows partition. the rest of the information I found is basically over this step. According to them, after the partition table is retrieved, Write it.

7. No way. You cannot scan quickly. You can only press enter to select (Deeper Search) to continue the in-depth scan (this step varies by the time required for disk and partition size)

8. Click p to view the content. if the content is correct, press c to copy it to the storage.

9. usage experience.

In fact, the process does not seem so smooth, or record the experience in the process for later reference. There are two main points.

1. During Deep scanning, you only need to scan the NTFS partition (or other) you need, and there is no need to wait until the full scan is completed to save time.

2. if the scanned partition is displayed as the following terminal screen after you press p or press enter, do not press enter to select Quit. You can press q on the keyboard to return to the previous partition selection page, if you press enter, the page will return to step 5, and the deep scan results will be lost. This is a pitfall only when you perform a deep scan again.

By the way, this artifact also has a Windows version, which is also free of charge.

At last, I would like to thank the author of TestDIsk.Christophe GRENIER.
