The age of our lives is full of unprecedented opportunities: if you have ambition and wisdom, then wherever you start, you can follow your chosen path to the pinnacle of your career. But the premise is that you have to be your own chief executive, know when to change your path, and work hard for a career that could last 50 years.
To do these things, first of all, you have a deep understanding of their own strengths and weaknesses, know how to learn new knowledge and work with others, and also understand what their values are, and where they can make the greatest contribution. Because only when all the work is focused on their own strengths, you can truly be distinguished.
Today we recommend the "Modern management" of the father of Peter Drucker's article. This digest, from the Harvard Business Review, is one of the most reprinted articles since its founding, and it is recommended to read, let us find a bigger world together and become a better person!
What's my way of working?
Surprisingly, few people know how they usually make things happen. The same person's strengths, a person's way of working is also unique.
The first thing to figure out is whether you're a reader (a habit of reading information) or a listener type (accustomed to listening to information). The vast majority of people do not realize this distinction, to their own life has caused great harm.
Dwight Eisenhower, the European Allied Commander-in-chief, has been a favorite of the news media. No matter what question the journalist raised, he could fluent. Ten years later, he became president, but the same reporters who worshipped him openly despised him. They complained that he never answered the questions positively, but Hu Yu the other things.
Eisenhower obviously did not know that he belonged to the reader type, not the listener type. When he was the European Allied Commander-in-chief, his aides ensured that every issue raised by the media was submitted in writing half an hour before the press conference. In this way, he fully mastered the questions raised by reporters. And when he became president, he didn't even hear the reporters asking.
A few years later, Lyndon Johnson screwed up his presidency, largely because he didn't know he was a listener. His predecessor, John F. Kennedy, was a reader-type man who had collected some excellent pen as his assistant. Johnson left these people after he took office, but he couldn't understand what the pen wrote.
Few listener types can make an effort to become a qualified reader-whether active or passive, and vice versa. Therefore, the person who tries to convert from listener to reader type will suffer the fate of Lyndon Johnson, and the person who tries to convert from reader type to listener type will suffer Dwight Eisenhower fate. None of them can achieve their talents or accomplishments.
How I Learn
All schools follow this mindset: There is only one right way to learn, and everyone has to follow it. However, for students who do not learn the same way as others, it is hell to be forced to study in a way that the school teaches. In fact, there are about six or seven different ways of learning.
Some people learn by writing, others study in hard work, others learn with detailed notes. For example, Beethoven left a lot of essays, but he never looked at composing. When asked why he had to take notes, he replied: "If I don't write it right away, I'll soon forget it." If I write them down in a small book, I'll never forget it, and I don't need to look at it. ”
In all the most important self-awareness, the easiest thing to do is to know how you learn. When asked, "How do you study?" "Most people know the answer. But when asked, "Do you adjust your behavior according to this understanding?" "Not a few people answered yes."
We have to be clear about ourselves: do I perform well under pressure or adapt to a step-by-step, predictable work environment? Is it better for me to be a decision maker or as a consultant?
Some people work best as team members. Others work best on their own. Some people are especially gifted when coaches and mentors, others are not able to be mentors. Clear ego, can cooperate with person better, at the same time clear direction in study.
Anyway, don't try to change yourself, because it's unlikely to be successful. However, efforts should be made to improve the way you learn and work.
Know how you learn new knowledge and work with others!
