VMware vsphere Big Data Extensions (BDE) Beta version was released in June 2013, the same year September 22 as the new features of the Vsphere 5.5 officially listed. As a commercial release based on Serengeti Open source technology launched by VMware, BDE's release will extend Vsphere, a widely recognized IT infrastructure, as the best infrastructure platform for deploying, running, and managing large data clusters and workloads.

BDE is a commercially released version based on Serengeti. The following figure is the BDE1.0 version of the feature list. Among the many features, the most surprising is the BDE1.0 version provides a visual interface and support for the yarn. In addition, the BDE1.0 version also provides a very valuable feature in enterprise applications such as automatic flex scaling (auto elasticity) and custom node base templates.

So now I'm starting to deploy BDE based on the virtualized environment I've been prepared for.

First, we need to deploy the BDE Management Server. It uses the Vapp deployment method, so it's very simple. Just import this vapp through Vcenter, complete the Installation wizard, and it's done. The specific steps are:

1. Login to vsphere Client

Enter the IP address of the vcenter and enter the Vcenter administrator and password.

2. Create a new virtual Datacenter (data center) and name it

3. Under the new datacenter, create a new virtual cluster (Cluster) and name it.

In the first page of the Create Wizard, tick the vsphere DRS feature. The vsphere Ha feature can be opened together when a virtual cluster has multiple hosts.

It should be noted here that HA and DRS are all features that are vsphere the Enterprise version or above.

4. Under the new cluster, add the host

Complete the Host Add Wizard based on the host IP address and administrator account information provided.

5. Under the new virtual cluster, create a new resource pool (Resource pool) and give it a name

6. Deployment of BDE OVA files

Select the newly created cluster or resource pool, select Menu "File–deploy OVA Template ...", and start the Installation Wizard with a pop-up dialog box.

7. Browse to select a local BDE OVA file

The OVA file is a BDE1.0 OVA file that was previously ready for download. Please refer to the blog "How to download vsphere Big Data Extensions 1.0" to complete the download.
