Microsoft UC Products (Exchange Server and Lync Server) are products that learn Microsoft technologies that must be known, understood, and expertly deployed in an enterprise-class unified communications platform. In view of this, I started learning Microsoft UC products from scratch.

One, what is Lync Server

Microsoft Lync Server is Microsoft's next generation Enterprise Integration communication Platform (formerly known as Communications Server), spanning PC, phone, web and other mobile devices, with a unified interface with visual impulse, with only one identity, You can seamlessly communicate with your employees, customers, partners, and suppliers anytime, anywhere, and Lync server has the security and reliability to deploy and migrate smoothly, improving your company's efficiency and your business!

Second, Lync server features

1. IM and status.

IM provides an instant messaging platform with conversation history and supports public IM connectivity to users of public IM networks such as Msn/windows Live, Yahoo!, AOL, and Google talk.

The State establishes and displays the user's personal idle status and willingness to communicate by using common states such as "idle" or "Busy" and more detailed states such as "Come Back Now" and "Do Not Disturb". Rich state information enables other users to make effective communication choices immediately.

2. Meetings.

Lync server supports IM conferencing, audio conferencing, web conferencing, video conferencing, and application sharing, both for scheduled and temporary meetings. A single client supports all these meeting types. Lync Server also supports dial-in conferencing so that users of public switched telephone network (PSTN) phones can participate in the audio portion of the meeting.

Meetings can be seamlessly changed and developed in real time. For example, a single meeting can start with instant messaging between some users and instantly and easily upgrade to an audio conference with desktop sharing and more audiences without disrupting the conversation flow.

3. Enterprise Voice.

Enterprise Voice is the Voice over IP (VoIP) service in Lync Server. It provides voice options that can enhance or replace traditional private branch exchange (PBX) systems. In addition to the full telephony capabilities of the IP PBX, Enterprise voice integrates rich state, IM, collaboration, and conferencing capabilities. Direct support such as call answering, call hold, continue calls, call forwarding, call forwarding, and so on, using contact lists instead of personalized speed dial keys, and using IM instead of automatic walkie-talkie.

Enterprise Voice supports high availability through extended options for Call Admission Control (CAC), branch office viability, and data resiliency.

4. Support remote users.

By deploying a server called Edge Server to provide connectivity to users who are currently outside the organization's firewall, you can provide these remote users with the full functionality of Lync server. These remote users can connect to a meeting by using a personal computer, phone, or Web interface that has a Lync client installed.

By deploying Edge servers, you can also "federate" with partner or vendor organizations. Federated relationships enable your users to join federated users in their contact lists, Exchange status information and instant messages with federated users, and invite them to join audio calls, video calls, and meetings.

5. Mobile Client Support.

In addition, with Lync Server mobility, your users can access Lync features and perform activities such as sending and receiving instant messages, viewing contacts, and viewing status when using a supported Apple IOS, Android, Windows phone, or Nokia mobile device. In addition, mobile devices support some enterprise voice features, such as "Click to join Meeting", "unit phone call", "one Pass", "voice mail", and "Missed call". Mobile devices that do not support applications running in the background support push notifications.

6. Integration with other products.

Lync server integrates with multiple other products to provide additional benefits to your users and administrators.

Conferencing tools are integrated into Outlook, allowing the organizer to schedule a meeting or start a temporary meeting with one click, and to facilitate attendees to join the meeting.

The status information is integrated into Outlook and SharePoint.

Exchange Unified Messaging (UM) provides multiple integration capabilities. Users can view whether a new voice message is available in Lync Server. They can click the play button in Outlook messages to listen to an audio voice message, or to view the transcription of a voice message in a notification message.

In addition, running Lync Server with Exchange Server can enable several new features, such as a unified contact store that is accessible through clients of both products, and high-resolution photos of contacts that are stored in the Exchange Server database.

7. Simple deployment.

To help you plan and deploy servers and clients, Lync server provides the topology builder.

Topology Builder is an installation component of Lync server. Topology Builder enables you to create, tune, and publish the topology you plan. The tool can also validate your topology before starting the installation of the server. When you install Lync Server on each server, the Setup program deploys the server as instructed in the topology.

8. Simple management.

After you deploy Lync Server, it provides the following powerful and simplified management tools:

1) Central configuration management enables you to centrally manage changes and quickly replicate them throughout your deployment.

2) Lync server Control Panel, web-based graphical user interface for administrators. This web-based Ui,lync server administrator can manage the system anywhere on the corporate network without having to install specialized management software on the computer.

3) The Lync Server Management Shell command-line administration tool, based on the Windows PowerShell command-line interface. The tool provides a rich set of commands to manage all aspects of the product and enables Lync Server administrators to automate repetitive tasks with familiar tools.
