This problem exists in both Windows XP Home Edition and Professional Edition.

Ii. Problem Verification

We use Windows XP Professional, with the recorder BenQ 2010a (write data transfer rate: 20x, rewrite data transfer rate: 10x, and read data transfer rate: 40x ).

Test process:

1. Burn a Ricky Martin folder with 27 files in total, 114 MB. The data is successfully burned and can be read normally under Windows 98/XP.

2. Add a "medical test" folder with two MP3 files in total, 6 MB. The data is successfully burned and read on the burner. The folder is lost on the general Optical Drive.

3. Add data again and burn the folder named "new". There are four files in the folder, prompting that the data is successfully burned. The results showed that all folders were lost when reading on the burner. On the optical drive, you can only see and read the Ricky Martin folder.

We can see that the Windows XP burning function does have a bug.

Iii. Solution

Note that do not write files or folders starting with "medical" to the CD-R/RW disc, or append record data to the CD-R/RW disc that does not contain such files.

Another way is to run Windows Update. You can solve this problem by selecting "Windows CD drive-up Update. Restart the computer to complete the installation process. After verification, there was no problem again.

Compatibility with third-party software

As you can see, the burning function of Windows XP is very limited, if you want to burn boot CD, VCD, etc., you must use third-party software. This raises a new question: what is the compatibility between Windows XP and third-party software?
