What is WPS?
WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup, Wi-Fi protection settings) is a certification project organized by the Wi-Fi Alliance. It is mainly designed to simplify the installation and security performance configuration of Wireless LAN.
In the traditional mode, when creating a wireless network, you must manually set the network name (SSID) and security key at the access point, and then verify the key on the client to prevent the "non-fast customer" intrusion. This process requires the user to have background knowledge of Wi-Fi devices and the ability to modify necessary configurations. Wi-Fi Protected Setup helps you automatically set the network name (SSID), configure WPA data encoding, and authenticate functions. You only need to enter the Personal Information Code (PIN method) or press the button (Button setting, or the PBC) to Securely connect to the WLAN. This greatly simplifies wireless security settings. Wi-Fi Protected Setup supports a variety of Wi-Fi-certified 802.11 products, including access points, wireless adapters, Wi-Fi phones, and other consumer electronic devices.
Advantages of WPS:
WPS can automatically configure the network name (SSID) and WPA security key for access points and WPS client devices in the network.
When you connect to a WPS device, you do not need to understand the SSID and security key concepts.
The user's security key cannot be cracked by outsiders because it is randomly generated.
You do not have to enter a pre-defined password segment or a lengthy hexadecimal string.
Information and network certificates are exchanged in the air through the Extended Authentication Protocol (EAP). This protocol is one of the authentication protocols used by wpa2.
Using DIR-615 as an example to set WPS. :
(1) Enable WPS
(2) configure the wireless network key.
(3) set a wireless network card. The Windows Wireless management software is not enabled here, but the built-in management software of the wireless network card is used.
After running the wireless management tool that comes with the wireless network adapter, the following interface is displayed. Click "WPS.
At this time within 120 seconds, press the WPS button on the side of the DIR-615, after the button is pressed, the display of the button is blue, and flashing. After a while, the two are connected.
The connection is successful.
Note: WPS configuration requires that both the wireless router and the wireless Nic support this function.
