TOM technology news on May 16, Beijing time, after the completion of the acquisition of the ibm pc department, Lenovo has encountered problems recently. According to sources, since Lenovo announced its acquisition of the ibm pc department in last December, 40 to 50 employees in IBM Greater China have resigned, accounting for 1/3 of the total number of employees in the region.
So far, IBM Taiwan has not commented on this. Although Lenovo has announced the completion of its acquisition of the ibm pc business, the name and structure of IBM Taiwan have not changed much. In addition to employee turnover, Lenovo also lost part of its market share, mainly because of the continued decline in IBM laptop sales in Asia Pacific (excluding Japan) over the past two quarters.
According to data released by IDCs, in second quarter of 2004, IBM had a 18% market share in the Asia Pacific laptop market, ranking first in the market. But by the first quarter of this year, IBM's market share has fallen to 13%, and the first throne has been given to HP. In the first quarter of this year, Hewlett-Packard's share in the Asia Pacific laptop market was 15%, Lenovo's 7%.
Yang Yuanqing, chairman of Lenovo, said at a special conference recently: "For us, it will be very difficult in the next two years ." It is reported that Lenovo will enter a difficult adjustment period in the next two years because it has completed the acquisition of ibm pc. Even so, Yang Yuanqing is still confident in the future of the company. He said Lenovo will strive to expand to the international market without large-scale layoffs.
In last December, Lenovo announced the acquisition of ibm pc at a price of $1.75 billion, including $0.65 billion in cash, $0.6 billion worth of shares, and $0.5 billion in debt. After the completion of the acquisition of the ibm pc department, Lenovo's annual sales reached $13 billion, becoming the world's third largest PC vendor after Dell and HP.
