Lesson 17-18 Do you get along well with your parents?

A new word

1 determine decides vt e.g. Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude. It determines that your life is not your talent, but your attitude.

End vi e.g. The lease determines next month. The lease will expire in the next month.

2 have been to indicates that you have been there before, but when there is continuous time (since, Ago, for), it indicates how long someone has been there.

E.g. I have gone to Shanghai and have been in Shanghai for two weeks. He has been in Shanghai for two weeks)

Have gone to indicates that the operation has gone and no response has been returned.

3 instead of replace

E.g. instead of complaining about what's wrong, be grateful for what's right. Don't complain about bad things. Be grateful for good things.

4 make into make...

E.g. I hope someday they accept me for who I am instead of trying to make me into who they think I shocould be.

5 to be fair

E.g. To be fair, the team is young and not yet settled.

To put it bluntly, this team is still young and has not yet taken shape.

6 drift apart: drifting e.g. Father and Mother try desperately to communicate as they drift apart. When feelings are separated, the father and mother try to communicate hard.

Almost, in fact, e.g. without her glasses, she was good as blind. Without glasses, she is almost the same as a blind man.
