First, Layer Masks

1 , Concept:

masks can be used to protect some layers that cannot be edited. Masks can control what part of the layer area can be hidden or displayed. Changing a mask can apply various effects to a layer without affecting the image on that layer.

A layer mask is a grayscale image, so content drawn in black will be hidden, content drawn in white will be displayed, and content drawn in gray tones will be displayed at all levels of transparency.

After you add a mask, the action we do is on the mask, not on the layer.

It is commonly used in image synthesis, so that two images are seamlessly synthesized together

2. common actions for masks

Add Mask: Click (Add Mask) on the layers panel.

Deactivate layer Mask: Right-click in the Layer bar mask thumbnail, pop Up the command dialog box, and select Deactivate layer mask.

Enable layer Masks: Right-click in the Layer bar mask thumbnail, pop Up the command dialog box, and select Enable Layer mask.

Apply Layer Mask: Right-click on the mask thumbnail, select Apply Layer mask, the effect of the mask is applied to the layer, and the mask is removed.

Delete Mask: With the left mouse button, hold down the mask thumbnail and drag down to the right (delete button).

Second, Quick Masks

1 , Concept:

Quick Mask mode allows you to edit any selection as a mask without using the Channel palette.

The advantage of editing a selection as a mask is flexibility, and you can modify the mask with almost any Photoshop tool or filter. For example, if you create a rectangular selection with the Marquee tool, you can go into Quick mask mode and use the brush to expand or shrink the selection, or you can use a filter to distort the selection edges. You can also use the selection tool, because a quick mask is not a selection.

Masks

Definition: is to create a new channel, with all the features of the channel, the mask is to take out the channel directly on the layer, the mask is only black, white, gray levels, the use of masks can cover the picture does not need to display parts: The place is filled with black is to make the layer completely hidden parts, The area filled with white is the fully displayed part, and the gray fill is the part that makes the image of the layer visible (i.e. midtones)

Several ways to use masks:

1. Text mask: Add the horizontal or vertical text Mask tool directly on the layer, where the area outside of the text is displayed in red.

2. Quick mask: is to convert the selection directly to a mask--in the presence of a selection--press Q to enter the quick mask or click the second button in the bottom third row of the Toolbox.

Pros: You can use tools or filters to modify a selection.

3. Layer Mask: A part of the control layer is displayed, partially hidden--you can create a mask by tapping the Mask button directly below the layer's control panel.

Note: Shift-click the mask thumbnail to disable or enable the mask effect, alt-click the mask thumbnail to display the mask effect in the image file.
