Lynx

(i) Lynx introduction
Lynx is a fully functional www browser under a character interface.   Lynx can run on many operating systems, such as VMS, UNIX, Windows, Windows NT, and of course Linux. Because of the lack of a beautiful graphical interface, Lynx occupies very little resources and is very fast. In addition, Lynx is the only WWW browser that can run under a character terminal.

(ii) running Lynx
You can run Lynx in the form of Lynx filename and Lynx Protocol://host/path/filename, the former for browsing local files, and the latter for browsing the Internet. Protocol (PROTOCOL), which can be HTTP, Gopher, FTP, and WAIS. Such as:

If you run Lynx without any arguments, Lynx will first look for an environment variable called Www_home and, if found, connect www_home the specified URL. The Www_home variable is set up under BSH and Ksh:

Export www_home=http://www.w3.org/default.html

CSH under:

Setenv Www_home http://www.w3.org/default.html

If the www_home variable is not specified, Lynx connects to its home page: http://lynx.browser.org/


(iii) keyboard commands for Lynx

Move command:
Down ARROW: The next link on the page (displayed with high brightness).
Top arrow: The previous link on the page (displayed with high brightness).
Return and RIGHT ARROW keys:
Jumps to the address to which the link points.
Left ARROW key: Go back to the previous page.

Scrolling command:
+,page-down,space,ctrl+f:
Page DOWN.
-,page-up,b,ctrl+b:
Page UP.
CTRL + A: Move to the front of the current page.
Ctrl+e: Moves to the last side of the current page.
CTRL + N: Turn down two lines.
Ctrl+p: Turn back two lines.
): Turn down half a page.
(: Turn back half page.)
#: Return to the Toolbar or Banner of the current page.

File Action command:

C: Create a new file.
D: Download the selected file.
E: Edit the selected file.
F: Displays an option menu for the current file.
M: Modify the name or location of the selected file.
R: Deletes the selected file.
T:tag highlighted file.
U: Upload a file to the current directory.

Other commands:

?, h: Help.
A: Add the current link to a bookmark file.
C: Send comments or suggestions to the owner of the page.
D: Download the current link.
E: Edit the current file.
G: Jumps to a user-specified URL or file.
G: Edit the URL of the current page and jump to this URL.
I: Displays the document index.
J: Perform a predefined short command.
K: Displays a list of keyboard commands.
L: Lists the addresses of all the links on the current page.
M: Back to Home page.
O: Set options.
P: Output The current page to a file, e-mail, printer or other place.
Q: Exit.
/: Finds a string within the current page.
S: An external search for the input string.
N: Search next.
V: View a bookmark file.
V: Jump to the address you have visited.
X: Do not use caching.
Z: Stops the current transmission.
[BACKSPACE]:
Jump to History page (same as V command).
=: Displays information for the current page.
: View the source code for the current page.
!: Go back to the shell prompt.
_: Clears all licensing information for the current task.
*: Toggle switch for graphics link mode.
@: 8-bit transfer mode or CJK Mode switch switch.
[: Switching switch for Pseudo_inlines mode.
: Sends a "head" request for the current page or for the current link.
Ctrl+r: Reload as current page and refresh screen.
Ctrl+w: Refresh the screen.
Ctrl+u: Deletes the entered line.
Ctrl+g: Cancel input or transfer.
Ctrl+t: Toggle switch for tracking mode.
;: Look at Lynx's track record for the current task.
Ctrl+k: Invokes the Cookie Jar page.
