Before giving you a detailed introduction to Linux vmware, we should first let you know about Linux vmware, and then give a full introduction to Linux vmware, hoping to be useful to you. Use the shared folders function under vmware workstation 5 in Linux vmwareLinux to transfer files between hosts and ghosts in vmware.

No network-related settings are required, and no network protocol is used. The host and ghost can be linux and windows operating systems. Here, we only describe that the host is windows and the ghost is set in linux, if the ghost is windows, see setting up shared folders in the Linux vmware help.

1. Install vmtools for linux:
Choose VM> install Linux vmware tools from the Linux vmware workstation program menu...

  1. Start linux in ghost computer and execute:
  2. Mkdir/mnt/cdrom
  3. Mount-o ro/dev/cdrom/mnt/cdrom vmtools installation files are stored in the virtual cdrom of vmware Linux. First, mount the optical drive to find the installation file)
  4. Cd/mnt/cdrom
  5. Tar-zxvf Linux vmwareTools-5.0.0-12124.i386.tar.gz-C/tmp unzip the installation file to/tmp)

Cd/tmp/Linux vmware-tools-distrib. /Linux vmware-install.pl executes the vwware installation script, which is written in perl) Here, the installer will ask a series of problems such as the location of the Installation File and setting the resolution, in most cases, install the default Linux vmware tools configuration to work normally. Therefore, press the Enter key to select the default configuration for each problem.

After the installation, Linux vmware will add a vmhgfs module to the kernel. You can use lsmod to view 2 sets the directory shared by the host computer: switch to the windows desktop on the ghost computer, choose VM> Settings> Options> Shared Folders> Properties in the Linux vmware workstation program menu.
Click "add" in the lower-right corner of the dialog box and click "Next"

Enter the name of the shared directory in the text box "name". The directory name entered here will be displayed in the linux System of the ghost computer with the same directory name). This is assumed to be fc4_iso; fill in the "host folder" in the host computer windows system to share the directory, Assuming F: \ linux-cd \ RedHat \ Fedora_Core_4 \ stentz-dvd-i386, and then click Finish

In the next dialog box, select the sharing mode: Enable this share indicates that the sharing is valid for a long time and the directory can be Read and written; Read-only means that the sharing is valid for a long time and the directory is Read-only; disable after this session means that the sharing will expire after the ghost computer is shut down or suspended next time. Generally, select Enable this share and click "finish"

After shared folder is set up, use the 3 shared folder directory to switch to the linux System of the ghost computer. Run: cd/mnt/hgfs ls to see the fc3_iso directory, in addition, you can use commands such as cp to implement read/write operations from windows to linux and from linux to windows.

4. Note: adding a shared folder or a version of the shared folder parameter to the Linux vmware software takes effect immediately, that is to say, you can immediately see the newly added shared directory in the linux System of the ghost computer and experience the parameter changes.

Conclusion: The purpose of this article is to reduce the number of new users who have repeatedly asked questions about the shared files of linux vmware host/ghost computer on CU Linux and repeated answers from other brothers, make the layout more informative. In addition, I think most of the answers to this question are through ftp,

Samba and even nfs can be implemented by installing microsoft service for unix on windows). It is much easier to use the shared folder method provided by vmware Linux to implement file transmission over the network protocol, for beginners, copying files using the cp command is much easier than using the ftp and smbmount commands.
