Basic use of dump backup and restore restore

Dump is a powerful backup tool that allows you to create levels in addition to backing up the entire file system! How to understand, can be understood as MySQL differential backup, if your home/home is a separate file system, then you first import after the dump, and then import the second dump, you can specify the backup level, if the specified level is 1 o'clock, At this point, the newly backed up data will only record files that differ from the first backup. In the diagram:

Although dump supports the entire file system and a single directory, the support for the directory is also insufficient, and this is where the dump is limited.

If the backup is only a directory, not a file system, and only use level 0 that is, a full backup, differential backup is not supported

This means that the-u parameter is not supported

The dump parameter is detailed:

-S: Lists only how much disk space is needed to back up the data to be backed up;

-U: The time of this dump is recorded in the/etc/dumpdates file;

-V: Displays the file process of dump;

-j: Join BZIP2 's support! Compress the data, the default bzip2 compression level is 2

-level: That's the level we're talking about, from 0 ~ 9 to a total of 10 levels;

-F: A bit like tar. The files that are generated later can be connected to the file name such as/dev/st0 device

-W: List the partitions with dump settings in/etc/fstab are they backed up?

Dump Backup full file system

Df-ht find the file system that needs to be backed up

Dump-s/DEV/HDC1 See how much capacity is needed to back up this file system

Dump-0u-f/root/boot.dump/boot (boot for HDC1 mounted directory) will boot backup to Boot.dump in/root and update the log file simultaneously

Ll/root/boot.dump/etc/dumpdates (the file is a backup time log file)

The restore parameter is detailed:

-T: This mode is used to see what important data is in the backup file of the dump! Similar tar-t function;

C: This mode can be the data in the dump to compare with the actual file system, will eventually be listed in the dump files are recorded, and the current file system is not the same files;

-I: Enter the interactive mode, you can restore only some of the files, used in the dump directory when the restore!

-R: A mode for restoring the entire filesystem, used to restore dump backups for file systems, and other more commonly used parameter functions:

-H: View Inode and file system label information in full backup data

-F: Back to the dump file you're dealing with.

-D: No-C to match, you can find the next mount point and dump have a different file

Example:

Restore-t-f/root/boot.dump View the contents of the backed up data

Restore-r-f/root/boot.dump recovers data (restores to the current directory).
