Linux VMware Tools Installation steps the simple Linux VMware Tools installation estimate is a bit difficult, and I've seen many versions of Linux installing VMware Tools on the Web, all in the same way. But in the installation process, still encountered some problems. But eventually it was done. I am running VMware Workstation 8.0.4, Os:centos 6.01. In the CD-ROM virtual drive, select Use ISO image to locate the VMware TOOLS installation files, such as C:\program\VMware\VMware Workstation\programs\linux.iso Of course this ISO is the Linux.iso in the directory where you install VMware Workstation, not your Linux OS image file. VMware tools is typically in this file. 2. Enter Linux,root account 3 as Administrator. To exit to Windows, in the Virtual Machine menu bar, click Virtual Machines, install the VMWARE TOOLS submenu, the dialog box pops up and click "Confirm" to install 4. Copy this file to the Temp folder CP/MNT/MVMWARETOOLS-8.8.4-743747.TAR.GZ/TMP6. Uninstall CDROM, execute umount/dev/cdrom7. Go to the TMP file directory and unzip this package cd/tmp tar zxf VMWare-linux-tools.tar.gz Unzip the default to the Vmware-tools-distrib directory: At this point you can use Ls-ll to view the files under folder 8. Go to Vmware-tools-distrib and install VMware Tools. /vmware-install.pl perform the installation, during the installation he will be step-by-step with a problem response, and in this process you encounter a direct input yes that shows [Yes],[no],[yes][no] later, and then enter. First, install the Vmtools

Click on the VMware menu-Virtual machine-install Vmwaretools and select "Install" in the Pop-up dialog box. At this point, the Linux version of the Vmwaretools installation CD image will be loaded automatically under Ubuntu. You will see a disc icon named Vmwaretools on the desktop of the virtual machine and is automatically opened. This includes two files of vmwaretools-5.3.3-34685-i386.rpm and vmwaretools-5.3.3-34685.tar.gz.

The. rpm file is for Red Hat, and we only need the. tar.gz, and copy it to a folder (because the CD drive is not writable).

$ tar zxf vmwaretools-5.3.3-34685.tar.gz (the system will decompress the. tar.gz file after carriage return)

$ cd Vmware-tools-distrib (enter after the directory will be converted to the unzipped folder)

$ sudo./vmware-install.pl (you will be prompted to enter your password after the carriage return, indicating that you will perform an action with more advanced permissions-install the software; Enter again after the installation begins)

After confirming the carriage return (which is equivalent to the many dialogs that were filled in when the software was installed in Windows, we use the default settings here) until the end of the word "enjoy--the VMware team", Vmwaretools finally installed.

If you are using VMware Workstation 6.0.0, you should now be able to see the effect of the Vmwaretools installation: The mouse will no longer need to switch between the virtual and the reality with the Ctrl+alt, all the transition is so natural The resolution of the virtual machine can be automatically adapted to the size of the window, and everything looks so harmonious. But we're using VMware Workstation 5.5.3, so for the time being you don't see anything, let's do the final setup.

In VMware Workstation 5.5.3, VMware Tools under Ubuntu are installed with manual execution of/usr/bin/vmware-toolbox to show the effect. You can run it by entering the following command in the terminal:

$/usr/bin/vmware-toolbox

But if you're in trouble, we need to get Vmware-toolbox to run automatically. Click on Ubuntu Menu: system--Preferences--session--startupprograms,add a name called "Vmware-toolbox", Command is "/usr/bin/vmware-toolbox" launcher. This will automatically run the vmwaretools after each boot. Restart Ubuntu to see how it works! (Note: Vmware-toolbox is not running in the background, do not close after startup)

VMware Tools is a good thing, but there are side effects, such as: the mouse wheel in the virtual machine is not good enough. We solve this problem, or open the terminal, enter:

$ sudo gedit/etc/x11/xorg.conf

This command enables the system to open the mouse configuration file/etc/x11/xorg.conf with root privileges. Put the files in the

Option "Protocol" "PS/2"

Change into

Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"

Restart Ubuntu to fix it.

Second, set the resolution:

1, Cd/usr/bin

Use this command to enter the/usr/bin directory;

2, LS *.pl

Use this command to find the vmware-config-tools.pl file;

3,./vmware-config-tools.pl

Run the vmware-config-tools.pl file;

4. Set the resolution

Enter the corresponding number of return can, feel the same as the original system can be set;

5. Restart the virtual machine.

Three, compact virtual machine space

Virtual machine with the use of space will be more and more large, and even if the deletion of the files, the space will not be reduced, you can use the shrink of VMware tools, the execution of Vmware-toolbox, and then compressed with shrink can be, the effect is very good, but the time is a bit long.
