Linux Kernel 3.18 LTS may disappear
After the last maintenance version is released, Greg Kroah-Harman announced today that the Linux Kernel 3.18 branch has reached its end. Linux Kernel 3.18.48 LTS is the final version of the branch. According to the short log, a total of 50 files are adjusted for this version, and 159 files are inserted and deleted at 351. The network stack is upgraded to Bluetooth, Bridge, IPv4, IPv6, CAIF, and Netfilter, and USB, SCSI, ATA, media, GPU, ATM, HID, MTD, SPI and network (wired and wireless) drivers.
If you are still using this Kernel branch, you should upgrade to the latest LTS version, such as Linux Kernel 4.9 or 4.4, which is more secure and powerful than 3.18. However, Linux Kernel 3.18 is mainly used by Google and other vendors on some Android devices and some chromebooks. Therefore, developers who cannot upgrade the Kernel provide some suggestions.
"If you are stuck in Linux Kernel 3.18, I can provide you with some help. First, you need to provide strong feedback with the hardware supplier to upgrade the threat as soon as possible. Otherwise, you do not need to purchase their products. If the supplier still does not upgrade, please believe that we have to communicate with the vendor. You are not alone in this issue ."
