Introduction to Linux MC

Midnight Commander (MC) is a "Swiss Army Knife" in the Linux console and other terminal environments. It is a very convenient File Manager, which is equivalent to the Total Commander in Windows. This gives the novice a menu-driven console experience, which is much easier to learn than standard Linux commands. However, there are very few users who use it. It may be because Linux users prefer to press the keyboard.

Main Interface of Linux MC: top menu bar (Press F9 or Esc + 9). The following two windows are available: the prompt area and the command input area. The shortcut is displayed at the bottom.

Linux MC also supports ftp login Oh, URL format: username: passwd@hostname.domainname

Linux MC has many more command links! The compression command must be installed on the local machine with related software. The editor is the default editor that calls the local machine.

Linux MC operations

Because MC operations are silly, I only want to talk about a few common operations!

Command buttons	Description
F9 or Esc + 9	Activation menu bar
Tab	Move between two windows
F10 or Esc + 0	Exit MC
Control-Enter or Alt-Enter	You can copy the file name to the command line.
F1 or Esc + 1	Open the Help Page

NOTE:

Although MC is very useful, I suggest you use the command line tool!
