Recently want to toss the Linux system itself, such as Linux cut or transplant. It's a hassle to cut or transplant Linux, and it will affect the current system when it goes wrong. How can you not affect the system on the current machine, then think of the virtual machine. Install the virtual machine in the current system, then you can toss it in the virtual machine.

Before installing the virtual machine, we will first select a virtual machine. Linux is used on the virtual machine is wine, strictly speaking, it is in the simulation Windows environment, I want to toss the Linux system, so gave up wine.

I've used VMware before, not to mention it's a powerful virtual machine, but it's commercial software that needs to be purchased to use, and therefore also gives up VMware.

Finally, I chose Vitualbox, which is small, practical, powerful, and, most importantly, open source software. It's the perfect thing to use open source software in the Linux world. Next I'll talk about how to install the virtual machine.

Install Virtual machine: VirtualBox
    • 1. Open the terminal and switch to the root account, then enter the installation command:

Apt-get Install VirtualBox

    • 2. Install the recommended package: (You must install this package, or you will not see the application icon)

virtualbox-dkms Virtualbox-source VIRTUALBOX-QT

    • 3. When the installation is complete, you can see the VirtualBox icon in the application.
Using virtual machines: VirtualBox
    • 1. Create a virtual machine .
      Click the New button in the menu to start creating a virtual machine;
    • 2. set the type of the virtual machine.
In the pop-up window, select the name, type and version of the virtual machine that was created, and then click Next. I'm going to toss the Linux system, so I chose the 32-bit Ubuntun, as shown in detail:

    • 3. set the memory for the virtual machine.
In the popup window to set the size of the virtual machine memory, you can write the number directly, you can also drag the ruler to choose, after the setup is complete, click Next. Memory is, of course, as big as possible, but not more than the current physical memory. My physical memory is 4GB, so I set the virtual machine to 1GB of memory. The details are as follows:

    • 4. set the drive type of the virtual machine.
In the pop-up window, select "Create Virtual hard disk Now" and click Create, a window will pop up, select the type of virtual machine hard disk in the popup window, I select the VDI type, then click Next. The vid type we choose is a hard disk image that creates a VDI-type file in the current computer, as shown in detail:

    • 5 Set the hard disk capacity of the virtual machine.
Select "Fixed size" in the pop-up window (this allows you to use the system for better performance.) ), then click Next and a new window will pop up to set the capacity and location of the hard disk in the window. Set it up and click Next to do so. The process lasts about 1-2 minutes, and the virtual machine is completed as soon as the drive is created. The hard disk files are stored by default in the Home/usr_name/virtualbox vms/directory. Hard disk size is not necessary too big, enough can be. I am going to install the Ubuntu14.04lts in the virtual machine, for the system is the official recommended hard disk capacity is 8GB, actually using 12GB will be better. The detailed operation is as follows:

    • 6. Create the virtual machine successfully.
The virtual machine was created successfully, which is equivalent to simulating a computer where we can install the system that we want to toss. Here is the virtual machine thumbnail I created.

We then installed the Ubuntu system in the newly created virtual machine, and I was ready to install a relatively new and stable system, so I chose ubuntu14.04lts. I've described how to use virtual machines to install mint, the process of installing Ubuntu, and the process of installing mint is exactly the same as in this series of blogs. So the detailed installation process I will not say, if you are not clear, you can click here to refer to my previous blog.

About the virtual machine is introduced here, later there are other use skills, and then share with you.
