Linux: passionate but heartless

Linux. Jego has a new countermeasure.

First look at the comment: this person's thinking is strange. What is clearly said is the investigation of the desktop system. It is necessary to obtain the logic judgment ability of "key large and medium-sized applications", is it bullying readers? If Ubuntu, Fedora, and SuSE are deployed together, you can choose one based on your preferences and needs. Do you have to choose one or more of them? Presumably, this old man is fond of the pattern set by others. who lacks the ability to choose? The preinstallation is far-fetched. It just comes with a pre-installed framework. You have to install the appropriate software based on your own needs. This is a common problem. In his opinion, windows pre-installation is also unacceptable, because there is no way to do anything except an empty system. "The competition in Linux is unordered, and everyone is responsible for their own affairs. The user needs vary widely (caused by Linux's so-called freedom)." There is no logic at all. The relationship between linux versions is like that between IBM and HP. You can choose a service. Do you have nothing to do, change the version continuously all day, or use multiple versions, is this possible? Third-party linux driver support is getting better and better, and this year's ATI action is a clear sign. In fact, every time I install linux, the driver problem is far less than that of XP. It should be said that linux gave the author a chance to talk about it.

Yesterday, I also saw a Linux person using "who is using Linux?" It is said that Linux is more popular. In my opinion, it is actually the summary of a one-year survey by the Linux Foundation on Desktop Linux users (the official deadline should be in December 30, however, some of the data and opinions reflect the insurmountable problems in Linux.

First of all, from the perspective of Linux User attributes, Linux is mostly concentrated in SOHO (small office/Home Office) at 68.4%, while in small, medium and large enterprises, the proportion of users used decreases sharply to 1%, 9.7%, and 6.2%. This shows that Linux is not against Windows in key large and medium-sized applications. However, in the past, Linux claimed that it should be advantageous in the above-mentioned scenarios. This proves that, in the nearly one year of this year, the advantages of Linux are being severely challenged, enterprise users (including small, medium, and large enterprises) are migrating to Windows.

Second, 69.4% of Desktop Linux users are IT professionals or software developers. This shows that Linux, after years of development, still does not get rid of the professionalism of its user base, even on the desktop. This shows that Linux is still not a simple and easy-to-use operating system. However, simplicity and ease of use are essential for the popularization of operating systems on the desktop. It is hard to understand that, even in the Linux-dominated user group, Windows is still a popular desktop operating system-59.6% of non-dedicated Linux users still use Windows.

The third reason is that the criticism of too many Linux operating system versions is still not effectively solved. The usage of Ubuntu Linux, Red Hat Linux, and SUSE Linux is 55.2%, 51.3%, and 32.9%, respectively. None of them occupy a dominant position. That is to say, if users want to use Linux, who should they choose? In contrast, Windows is a very standardized operating system, making it easier for users to choose, deploy, and maintain.

Fourth, according to my understanding of this report, I also mentioned an interesting aspect of desktop software selection that enterprise users need to use Desktop Linux software more freely, instead of using preinstalled Desktop Linux software. 56.6% of respondents said pre-installed Linux software could not meet their business needs. IT organizations do not want to lock a manufacturer of Linux released software. Freedom is still an important factor in application and management of pre-installed Linux client software. This is contrary to the fact that some Linux users in China have already entered the desktop by preinstalling Linux with PC vendors such as Dell (even Linux users do not agree to it ), this also proves that, from the perspective of PC vendors, preinstalled Linux is only a form, but from the perspective of Linux users, pre-installed Linux is not welcome. From this we can see that the competition in Linux is unordered, and everyone is responsible for their own affairs. The user needs vary widely (due to Linux's so-called freedom ). Freedom may ruin the future of Linux, but freedom is the essence of Linux, which is definitely a prisoner's dilemma for Linux.

In fact, from the development of Linux this year, Linux's understanding of itself has begun to become rational. For example, Jim Zemlin, chief executive officer of the Linux Foundation, said at Linux World that Linux needs to regain Microsoft's leadership in the operating system market. Contributors to the open-source community should also acknowledge Microsoft's current position and influence, and interact and cooperate with it. Not just cursing Microsoft. At the same time, Zemlin admitted that some features, Windows development is indeed good. In addition, if the conflict with Microsoft is intensified, Microsoft's methods to resolve the conflict in history are quite powerful. The Linux community may not be able to withstand such attacks.

From the domestic perspective, Lu shouqun, Chairman of the Open Source alliance of China, also said at a meeting that the success or failure of Linux does not depend on open source or Microsoft, but on a third party. At present, Linux desktop systems only account for 1%-2% of the world's share, more than 90% of the world is still Windows. The development of Linux has reached an inflection point. It has nothing to do with open source and Microsoft. The key lies in the independent hardware vendor (IHV) of a third party) and software developers (ISVs ). Currently, there are nearly 20 thousand drivers supporting Vista, and less than three thousand drivers supporting Linux. When using Linux, users often complain that the driver cannot keep up. Lu shouqun believes that the key to Linux development is to develop the driver support and seek a third party. In my opinion, what Linux should consider next is why the third party is unwilling to support or support Linux as few as possible?

Sadly, some Linux people in China still don't seem to be aware of this. They still use the so-called "Innovation" and "leading" to improve the influence of Linux, it does not even hesitate to attack Microsoft to prove Linux's advantages. This kind of mood can be understood, but it will be inevitable for such a long time to go on and be troubled by the relentless fact.
