For Linux systems, let's talk about the telnet service. In Linux, we will explain the telnet settings for different versions and related issues. For details, refer to the text.
I. Basic telnet knowledge
Telnet: provides the telnet service. unencrypted user/password groups are used for verification and attached to the xinetd service. The file is located in/etc/xinetd. d/telnet.
Krb5-telnet: Provides telnet service, allows normal telnet login, default is not allow root user login, use os5 authentication, attached to the xinetd service. The file is located in/etc/xinetd. d/krb5-telnet.
Ekrb5-telnet: provides encrypted telnet service, but must require ekrb5's encrypted server. The file is located in/etc/xinetd. d/ekrb5-telnet.
Xinetd: Internet operation service program. it provides functions similar to inetd + tcp_wrapper, but it is more robust and secure. It monitors the network's requirements for various services managed by it and starts the corresponding service programs as needed. the file is located in/etc/xinetd. d.
Ii. Install the telnet Service
1. view the telnet rpm package
- [root@rhel52 /]# rpm -qa | grep telnet
- telnet-0.17-38.el5

2. Install the telnet server rpm package
- [root@rhel52 work]# rpm -ivh telnet-server-0.17-38.el5.i386.rpm

Note: After installation, a telnet configuration file will appear in/etc/xinetd. d /.
