The ubuntu14.10 system comes with a unity desktop environment, but is still accustomed to the GNOME desktop environment, plus the dock is handy.
Method/Step
First, press Ctrl+alt+t to bring up the terminal. In which you enter: sudo apt-get install Gnome-shell and press ENTER. Then prompt to enter the password, enter after the return. Wait for the installation to be ready.
After installation, log off. After the user name, click Ubuntu logo, and in the drop-down list, select the Gnome icon for the small footprint flag. Then log in.
After entering the GNOME desktop environment, move the mouse pointer to the upper-left corner of the desktop. Select the nine Gongge at the bottom of the left.
After entering, find "Ubuntu Software Center" and open it.
Enter "Dock" in the search box in the upper right corner and return.
Select the first item "Cairo-dock" to install.

Precautions
- After you open the dock, right-click to set it to on boot.
