Linux Virtual Machine installation (using Centos6.3), linuxcentos6.3
1. What is a virtual machine?
A virtual machine is a complete computer system that is simulated by software and runs in a fully isolated environment.
2. Preparations before installing the Linux Virtual Machine
2.1: a windows pc
2.2: Download VMware software
2.3: Download The Centos6.3 iso Image
3. Download and install VMware software
3.1: What is VMware?
VMware is a virtual PC software that virtualizes a new hardware environment on an existing operating system. It is equivalent to simulating a new PC, in this way, two operating systems are actually running on one computer at the same time.
VMware Official Website: http://www.vmware.com, can be downloaded on the official website, you can also google or Baidu to find.
3.2: Why choose VMware?
Currently, there are many virtual machine software, but VMware is an absolute leader. It is the most mainstream and powerful Virtual Machine Software. VMware versions are updated quickly. You must select an appropriate version as needed during the download process. The higher the version, the larger the software package. At the same time, in the later version, a large number of virtualization functions are added for enterprise users. running these functions will occupy a larger hard disk space, which may cause computer freezing. For personal learning and use, it is best to select a lower and more stable version, such as VMware8.0, and install VMware8.0 on Windows and later systems.
3.3: Install VMware. Double-click the installation program of VMware workstation.exe, select "typical installation" and install it on any hard disk except drive C (because the data generated by VMware software occupies the space of drive C, if you are used to installing software on drive C, the remaining space of drive C becomes smaller and smaller, and the Windows Host becomes increasingly stuck)
4. Use VMware to create a VM
4.1: Open VMware and you will see the interface shown in figure. Click "create VM"
4.2: Select "standard" for the configuration type (standard mode is relatively simple), as shown in figure
4.3: Select "Install later"
4.4: on the Virtual Machine Simulation operating system selection page, select "Linux" and select "Centos"
4.5: Set "20 GB" for the hard disk allocation of the Virtual Machine. Note that setting "20 GB" does not mean that the virtual machine must occupy such a large space, but will occupy a maximum of 20 GB space.
4.6: It indicates that the virtual machine has been installed, but it is still an "shell". There is no real Linux system yet.
5. install Linux in a virtual machine
5.1 Adjust Memory and CD
Double-click "Memory" and a pop-up window will pop up. The memory should be adjusted to 628 MB at least. The file added to the disc is the first disk in Centos6.3, that is, DVD1, because the installation and common software packages of the main body are on DVD1, only some programs of DVD2 can be used. We generally choose to install the first disk, and then click "OK"
6. Turn on the power of Vmware and click the "Arrow" in the figure to enable power-on.
7. After step 6, go to the installation wizard interface shown in, and select the first installation method
8. after arriving at this page, select the last "create custom layout" (because the previous installation steps are similar to those of the installation program in Windows, there is no special note, so it is omitted)
9. On the partition settings page, click "new" and select "Standard partition". For example, click "CREATE" in the figure"
10. partitions to be created
Which partitions should be set according to your needs? Generally, "root (/)", "/home", "/boot", and swap must be partitioned, where "root (/) select "ext4" for system file types ","/home ", and"/boot ". The size of the swap partition is generally twice the size of the memory;
11. Click "Next" in Step 10 and then the pop-up shown in the pop-up window is displayed. Click "format"
12. Select the installation mode interface, as shown in figure. Here I select the "Basic Server" mode.
13. After "Next", the installation of Linux on the virtual machine starts. It may take about 30 minutes to complete the installation.
