The LM2596 series switching voltage regulators are step-down power management monolithic integrated circuits capable of outputting 3 a drive current with good linearity and load regulation characteristics. Fixed output versions are available in 3.3V, 5V, 12V, and an adjustable output version.

This voltage regulator can be used by adding a small number of external components. The device is internally integrated with a frequency compensation and fixed frequency generator.            With a switching frequency of 150KHz, a smaller filter element can be used compared to a low-frequency switching regulator. The package form includes a standard 5-pin TO-220 package and a 5-pin TO-263 surface mount package.

Because the device can use a common standard inductor, this optimizes the use of the LM2596, greatly simplifying the design of the switching power supply circuit.

There are other features of the device: under certain input voltages and output loads, the error of the output voltage can be guaranteed to be within the range of the ±4%, the oscillation frequency error is within the range of ±15%, and an external power outage can be achieved with only 80μa standby current With self-protection circuit (a two-stage reduced-frequency current-limit protection and an over-temperature complete protection circuit for power outages in exceptional cases).
