In UNIX, everything is a file. Based on this theorem, UNIX configuration files are stored in text files, and multiple programs can be linked to complete complex tasks.

The GNU Project was supported by the FSF for Free Software Foundation in 1984 to build a Free UNIX system. By 1990, a set of almost complete systems including gcc and emac were established.

GPL = GNU General Public License. GPL encourages free software. All improvements and modifications to software that follow GPL must also follow GPL.

Linux originated in 1991 when a college graduate Linux Torvalds established an operating system kernel called "Linux. Although the kernel only supports the gcc and bash GNU products at the time, it indicates that the combination of Linux kernel and GNU application makes it possible to establish a free UNIX-like system.

In the GUI environment, Linux provides the standard X Window System: XFree86. Two desktop environments: KDE and GNOME are created on Qt and GTK + Development Kits respectively.
